The Ossefactor

The Ossefactor is a Drukhari weapon that kills you with your own skeleton. One hit triggers runaway bone growth, and the victim’s body sprouts spurs and spears that tear them apart from the inside.

What the ossefactor actually does

The ossefactor fires a blast that forces uncontrolled bone growth in the target. The skeleton doesn’t just thicken, it erupts: spurs and spear-like growths punch out through flesh and kill the victim almost instantly.

The nastiest part is the reach. Those bone spears don’t politely stop at the victim, so anyone standing close by can get impaled too. In a packed melee, one shot can gut a whole cluster of infantry.

A medical tool turned weapon

Haemonculi originally built these devices as surgical instruments. They use them to sculpt bone growth in their clients, working through what the sources call osteocytic impulsion waves.

That’s the grim joke at the heart of the ossefactor. The same mechanism that lets a haemonculus reshape a paying customer’s skeleton, cranked up past any safe limit, turns a body into a shrapnel grenade.

Who carries one

You’ll see ossefactors in the hands of haemonculi and their wracks, the twisted flesh-crafters who serve them. Wracks often mount one in a secondary arm, so they can keep a blade free while still firing.

It shows up in the Drukhari ranged weapon lists alongside splinter weapons, blasters and dark lances, but it plays a different role. Those guns are about volume of fire or punching through armour. The ossefactor is about turning a body into a hazard.

  • Frequently fitted to a wrack’s extra arm
  • Classed as Drukhari ranged wargear

Where it came from

The ossefactor isn’t ancient Drukhari tech. It was developed by a haemonculus coven called The Hex, and they got the idea from studying captive Black Dragons Space Marines.

The Black Dragons carry a gene-seed defect that makes their bones grow into sharp, blade-like protrusions. The Hex worked out how to replicate that mutation on demand, then weaponised it.

It’s a neat piece of lore because it ties the Drukhari to a loyalist Chapter. The haemonculi didn’t invent a new horror, they copied one the Imperium already lives with and pointed it back at them.
