Lemartes is a Blood Angels Chaplain who somehow keeps the Black Rage under control, making him the chapter’s Guardian of the Lost and leader of the Death Company.
Who is Lemartes?
Lemartes is one of only two Blood Angels ever recorded to contain the Black Rage, the other being Chief Librarian Mephiston. He serves as the Guardian of the Lost, the Chaplain who leads the Death Company into battle.
He’s a Space Marine from Baal, active since M41, and his willpower is the only thing standing between him and the madness that consumes his brothers.
How he held the rage
Lemartes fell to the Black Rage while the Blood Angels prepared to fight orks on Hadriath XI. After the battle, he insisted he was still in control, and High Chaplain Astorath saw he was coherent enough not to attack his own brothers.
Astorath sent him back to Baal in stasis for study. The Sanguinary Priests found that Lemartes was indeed in the grip of the Rage, but his will alone kept it leashed, something never seen before in the chapter’s history.
They warned Astorath that Lemartes couldn’t hold out forever, so Astorath gave him a unique role: leading the Death Company. Between battles, Lemartes returns to stasis to protect his brothers from his own potential outburst.
Wargear and appearance
Like other Chaplains, Lemartes wears black power armour, a Death Mask, and a Rosarius. He also uses a Jump Pack to keep up with the Death Company.
His main weapon is the Blood Crozius, an ancient Crozius Arcanum said to have belonged to the Blood Angels’ first High Chaplain and gifted to him by Astorath. After crossing the Rubicon Primaris, he also carries an absolvor-pattern bolt pistol.

Why he matters
Lemartes gives the Death Company a leader who understands their curse firsthand. Under his command, those lost to the Rage fight like heroes of legend, earning redemption before they fall.
Some see his eventual fall as inevitable, while others take him as proof that the Black Rage might be mastered. Either way, he’s a living symbol of the Blood Angels’ struggle.
