Prince Yriel is the High Admiral of Craftworld Iyanden and one of the greatest naval commanders the Aeldari have ever produced. He’s an Autarch, a Corsair Prince, and the man who saved his craftworld from extinction when Hive Fleet Kraken came calling.
Who is Prince Yriel?
Yriel is an Aeldari Autarch from Iyanden, serving as High Admiral of its fleet. He also leads his own Corsair fleet, the Eldritch Raiders. His reputation as a naval genius is unmatched among his people.
He’s unusual as an Autarch because he never walked the Paths of War. Instead, his command skill comes from the Path of the Mariner. That background makes him a rare kind of leader among the Asuryani.
His bloodline sets him apart too. He’s a bastard descendant of the House of Ulthanash, and his father’s identity is a mystery. Some whispers say his father was an exile from a noble house of Eldanesh’s line. Others claim something darker. That uncertainty feeds Yriel’s famous pride, which many see as his greatest flaw.
From exile to saviour of Iyanden
Yriel proved himself early. When Iyanden sent a fleet against Hive Fleet Naga in 810.M41, the commanding admiral died in the opening exchange. Yriel, then second in command, took control and won the day.
Pride and politics eventually drove him into self-imposed exile. He left Iyanden and built the Eldritch Raiders into a feared Corsair fleet, raiding across the stars.
Then Hive Fleet Kraken arrived. With Iyanden on the brink of annihilation, Yriel returned with his Corsairs and helped break the Tyranid assault. It’s the act he’s most famous for, and it saved his craftworld from extinction.
Wargear and recent returns
Yriel wields the Spear of Twilight, a legendary weapon tied to his fate. His miniature carries his signature back banners and ornate armour, with a helmeted option for those who prefer him fully sealed.
He’s recently returned to the tabletop in the Eldritch Raiders Battleforce, leading a refreshed Corsair host. That box introduced the winged Corsair Skyreavers and the Void Dreamer Kharseth, a psyker who guides fleets through the Warp.
The set also brought a new Vyper jetbike kit, redesigned to match modern Aeldari aircraft.
Key connections
Yriel ties into several corners of Aeldari lore. He’s a Craftworlder, a Corsair, and briefly walked with the Ynnari. That mix makes him a useful entry point for anyone exploring how the different Aeldari factions overlap.
- Iyanden: his home craftworld, which he saved from Hive Fleet Kraken.
- Eldritch Raiders: his personal Corsair fleet, the Anhrathe.
- Ynnari: he was formerly affiliated with them.
- House of Ulthanash: his mother’s noble line, and the source of his disputed heritage.
