Space Marine Scouts

Space Marine Scouts are the new recruits of a chapter, halfway through biological transformation and already fighting in the shadows. They’re the eyes and knives of the Adeptus Astartes, sent ahead to sabotage, spy, and kill before the main force ever lands.

What are Space Marine Scouts?

Scouts are recruits who’ve advanced far enough in training and gene-seed implantation to see real combat, but they’re not yet full Battle-Brothers. They’re lighter, faster, and more expendable than the transhuman warriors they’ll become.

They serve in the 10th Company of a Codex chapter, under a veteran sergeant who teaches them every weapon and tactic the Adeptus Astartes use. After months of this, they earn their place in the battle companies.

How they fight

Scouts don’t hold battle lines. They slip behind enemy positions, gather intel, destroy key targets, and assassinate commanders, then vanish before anyone can react. Stealth and speed matter more than armour.

Their missions often include boarding actions against Tyranid hive ships or hunting synapse creatures that direct the Hive Mind. Later in training they learn to ride bikes, extending their recon range.

Gear and variations

Scout armour is lighter than power armour, trading protection for mobility. They carry sniper rifles, shotguns, boltguns, and heavy bolters, sometimes loaded with Hellfire rounds for Tyranid work.

Primaris Marines can serve as Scouts too, doing the same jobs as their Firstborn brothers. Different chapters put their own spin on Scout doctrine, but the core role stays the same: strike first, strike unseen.

  • Light armour, no full power suit
  • Sniper rifles, shotguns, heavy bolters
  • Hellfire rounds for Tyranid missions
  • Bikes used in final training phase

Why they matter

Scouts are the chapter’s future. Every Marine starts here, and the lessons learned in the 10th Company shape how they fight for centuries. They’re also the only Marines who still remember being human, which gives them a perspective their fully transformed brothers lack.

On the tabletop and in lore, Scouts bring flexibility. They’re cheap, fast, and good at grabbing objectives or disrupting enemy plans while the heavy hitters get into position.
