The Deffkopta is the Orks’ most common aircraft, a single-seat whirlwind of rotors, rockets, and bad ideas. It’s fast, fragile, and exactly what you’d expect from a Mekboy who was told ‘no’ one too many times.
What is the deffkopta?
A Deffkopta is basically a Warbike with rotors bolted on and a jet engine shoved somewhere it probably shouldn’t be. The pilot sits in the open, blades spinning inches above his head, and the whole thing screams through the air on a wing and a prayer.
No two Deffkoptas look alike. Mekboys never build the same machine twice, so you’ll see everything from twin-linked big shootas to rokkit launchas, kustom mega-blastas, bigbomms, or even a massive buzzsaw for lopping heads off as you fly past.
How deffkoptas fit into Ork warfare
Their main job is long-range reconnaissance. Deffkoptas range ahead of the main Ork force, spot something juicy, then race back to tell the lads where the fight is. They usually operate in squadrons of three.
But scouting is just the excuse. Deffkopta pilots love strafing runs, unloading their guns into enemy ranks before charging in to finish the job with reinforced rotor blades. It’s risky, it’s loud, and it’s very Ork.
Speed Freeks and Evil Sunz warbands adore them. When you can fly over any terrain, a Warbike starts to look a bit boring.
Tabletop rules (10th edition)
In Warhammer 40,000 10th edition, Deffkoptas are fast attack skirmishers with a 12″ move, toughness 6, 4 wounds, and a 4+ save. They’re not tough, but they’re quick and they hit hard enough to matter.
Their default guns are kopta rokkits (blast, twin-linked, D3 shots, strength 9, AP -2, damage 3) or a kustom mega-blasta (hazardous, 3 shots, damage D6). Up close, spinnin’ blades do the messy work in melee.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Move | 12″ |
| Toughness | 6 |
| Save | 4+ (6+ invulnerable) |
| Wounds | 4 |
| Leadership | 7+ |
| Objective control | 2 |
Origins and the Mekboy madness
Deffkoptas came out of decades of Mek experiments, pioneered by Kog da Flymek. Ork Meks had been trying to crack flight for generations, and most attempts ended in spectacular explosions.
But Ork stubbornness plus a bottomless supply of Speed Freak test pilots eventually paid off. Today, plenty of Mekboys can build a Deffkopta, though the exact process is still a matter of trial, error, and not standing too close.

FAQ
What’s the difference between a Deffkopta and a Warkopta?
A Deffkopta is a single-seat attack craft, while a Warkopta is a larger transport helicopter used by Orks. They share the rotor-and-scrap aesthetic, but the Warkopta carries troops.
Can Deffkoptas carry bombs?
Some are fitted with bigbomms, but it’s not standard. Armament varies wildly because no two Deffkoptas are built the same way.
Are Deffkoptas good in 10th edition?
They’re cheap, fast, and good for grabbing objectives or harassing backlines. Just don’t expect them to survive sustained fire.
