The Doom Eagles are a Second Founding Space Marine Chapter descended from the Ultramarines. They’re famous for their morbid philosophy: every battle-brother accepts that he’s already dead, which makes them fearless, grim, and utterly relentless in war.
Who they are
The Doom Eagles were created during the Second Founding after the Horus Heresy, split from the Ultramarines Legion. They’re counted among the Primogenitors, the original successor Chapters, and they keep many Ultramarines traditions. Their first Chapter Master was Tulian Aquila.
But they’re not shiny, regal Ultramarines. The Doom Eagles are pious, dour, and aloof. Their whole culture revolves around death and mourning. They believe every Marine is already dying, and that accepting this truth frees them from doubt, glory-seeking, and fear.
Their homeworld is Gathis II, with their fortress-monastery called the Eyrie on the Ghostmountain. Their armour is silver and red, and their battle cry is ‘Duty unto Death!’
Why they matter
The Doom Eagles matter because they show a different side of the Ultramarines’ legacy. Where most successors try to emulate Guilliman’s noble ideals, the Doom Eagles channel their gene-seed into a death cult that’s still loyal and effective.
Their philosophy isn’t just flavour. It’s a weapon. By accepting their own mortality, they fight without hesitation or fear of dying. That makes them ideal for brutal, attrition-heavy campaigns.
After the Great Rift opened, their homeworld was lost in Imperium Nihilus. Roboute Guilliman reassigned them as one of the ten Shield Chapters of Ultramar, giving them a temporary base in Ultramar.
Organisation and beliefs
The Chapter is led by a Chapter Master, currently Hearon. They have a Council of Eagles, a Reclusiam, and a Hall of the Fallen to honour their dead.
Their recruitment is harsh. Hopefuls must survive trials that force them to confront and accept death. If they don’t, they’re left to die in the elements.
Their specialty is jump pack assaults, using speed and shock to close with the enemy. They also have unique formations like the Doombearer and Eagle Talon, plus vessels such as the Emperor’s Storm and Shroud of Yrnax.
