Herald of Nurgle

A Herald of Nurgle is a greater Plaguebearer, a daemon born from a mortal who held out unusually long against Nurgle’s Rot. That longer resistance breeds a bigger, nastier daemon, and these Heralds command the Plague God’s daemonic ranks in battle.

What makes a Herald

Most Plaguebearers come from victims who finally give in to Nurgle’s Rot. Heralds come from the ones who fight it for a long time first. The disease still wins, but the drawn-out incubation produces something more powerful.

Some Heralds also spawn from other Nurgle diseases rather than the Rot itself. Either way, they end up larger than a standard Plaguebearer and carry real authority.

They often lead packs of their own kind, and some ride Rot Flies as Plague Drone squadrons.

The three main types

Heralds aren’t a single uniform rank. They split into distinct roles, each with its own job in Nurgle’s armies.

  • Poxbringers: the most common lieutenants of the Great Unclean Ones. Taller and broader than the Plaguebearers around them, they project grim authority and make sure the Great Unclean Ones’ orders get followed exactly. They swing Baleswords hard enough to cut down enemy champions and sorcerers, and they cast their own unclean spells.
  • Sloppity Bilepipers: the jolly ones, which says a lot. They carry Jolly Gutpipes and a marotter made from a previous Bilepiper’s remains. They’re carriers of the Chortling Murrain, a disease that makes victims laugh themselves to death. They joke with Nurglings, Great Unclean Ones and Beasts of Nurgle, but not Plaguebearers, who have no sense of humour.
  • Spoilpox Scriveners: the dour ones. Their job is keeping Plaguebearers on their tallies, which they do by bullying and insulting them relentlessly. That abuse pushes the Plaguebearers to fight harder, making the Scrivener a strategic linchpin.

Notable Heralds

A few named Heralds show up in Nurgle’s Plague Wars and other campaigns.

Why they matter

Heralds are the glue of a Nurgle daemon army. They translate a Great Unclean One’s will into action, keep Plaguebearer packs fighting, and add spellcasting and heavy hitting where it’s needed.

In tabletop terms they’re the mid-tier HQ and support choices that make a Nurgle daemon list work, bridging cheap Plaguebearers and the huge Great Unclean Ones.
