The Supreme Grand Master is the highest rank in the Grey Knights Chapter, equivalent to a Chapter Master. He commands the Chapter with absolute authority and holds a seat on the Chapter Council.
Role and authority
The Supreme Grand Master is elected unanimously by the eight Grand Masters and rules the Chapter absolutely. Upon taking the position, he’s granted the title ‘Lord’. He leads the Chapter Council alongside the Grand Masters.
This structure dates back to the Chapter’s founding, when Malcador the Sigilite selected nine individuals to fight treachery, with one leader and eight beneath him. That tradition continues today.
Known Supreme Grand Masters
Janus was the first Supreme Grand Master. Sylas Kalthorn served as the 13th. Geronitan, the 47th, was killed by Mortarion and succeeded by Kaldor Draigo, the current Supreme Grand Master.
Calastan is also named among their number. The exact order and dates for some are unclear, but these are the names that appear in the records.
