The Red Scorpions are a Space Marine chapter with no recorded founding and a fierce belief in their own purity. They’ve fought across the galaxy for thousands of years, and their secrecy makes other Imperial leaders nervous.
Who they are
Nobody knows where the Red Scorpions came from. Their founding records are gone, and so is any trace of which Legion their gene-seed came from. That gap has existed for at least 5,000 years, and it’s made some in the Imperium question where their loyalty really lies.
The chapter answers to the Emperor alone, which doesn’t sit well with everyone. Still, they’ve carried out thousands of relief missions and fought alongside Imperial forces whenever called. They just won’t explain themselves to anyone.
Culture and beliefs
Purity is everything to the Red Scorpions. Their battle cry is ‘Strength in Purity!’, and they treat any hint of corruption as a threat to the chapter’s soul. That paranoia shapes how they fight and who they’ll stand beside.
Their gene-seed is unusually stable, which they take as proof of their superiority. They also reject the practice of seconding Marines to the Deathwatch, a decision that sets them apart from most chapters.
- Battle cry: ‘Strength in Purity!’
- Gene-seed is notably pure and stable
- Refuse to send Marines to the Deathwatch
- Answer only to the Emperor, not the High Lords
Key battles and campaigns
In 857.M38, during the Siege of Helios, the chapter’s Master of the Forge bolted extra Whirlwind launchers onto Land Raiders. He did it because the Red Scorpions didn’t trust the Imperial Guard units nearby and feared catching whatever corruption had touched them. That improvised design became the Land Raider Helios.
The entire chapter vanished into the Ordon Rift in the late 39th millennium for 300 years. Most assumed they were dead. When they finally reappeared, they never said what happened.
They fought at the Siege of Vraks in 826.M41, helping breach the curtain wall around the Fortress of Vraks. Veteran Sergeant Carab Culln led the vanguard squad that planted the teleport homer for Commander Ainea’s Terminators.
Organisation and homeworld
The chapter keeps nine full companies plus a reduced Scout company. Their fortress-monastery, the Vigil, is a massive battle station orbiting the moon of Zaebus Minoris. They spend most of their time crusading rather than sitting at home.
Lord High Commander Carab Culln is the official Chapter Master, but he’s been interred in a Dreadnought. In practice, Captains Casan Sabius and Sirae Karagon run the chapter day to day.
| Role | Name |
|---|---|
| Chapter Master (de jure) | Lord High Commander Carab Culln |
| De facto leaders | Captains Casan Sabius and Sirae Karagon |
| Homeworld | Zaebus Minoris / crusading chapter |
| Fortress-Monastery | The Vigil, a battle station in orbit |

FAQ
Who is the Red Scorpions’ primarch?
Unknown. Their gene-seed lineage has never been confirmed, and no records survive to say which Legion they descend from.
Why don’t the Red Scorpions join the Deathwatch?
Their extreme focus on purity means they refuse to second Marines to other organisations. They see it as a risk to their chapter’s genetic and spiritual integrity.
What happened during the Ordon Crusade?
The whole chapter deployed into the Ordon Rift for 300 years and was presumed lost. What they did or found there has never been explained.
