Commorragh

Commorragh, the Dark City, is the capital of the Drukhari and the greatest port-city hidden inside the Webway. It’s a sprawling, nightmarish realm built on cruelty, and it’s where the Dark Eldar have survived since their empire fell.

What is Commorragh?

Commorragh is a city-realm tucked deep inside the Webway, the labyrinth between realspace and the Warp. It’s the heart of Drukhari society and the seat of their power.

It started as a Webway port in the Eldar empire, but after the Fall it became a self-contained realm. For over ten thousand years it’s been ruled by Kabals, Wych Cults, Haemonculus Covens, and noble houses.

  • Also called the Dark City
  • Capital of the Drukhari (Dark Eldar)
  • Located inside the Webway, not in realspace
  • Ruled by Asdrubael Vect, Supreme Lord of the Kabal of the Black Heart

How Commorragh grew

The city began as a nodal port in M18, giving the Eldar empire access to the far corners of the galaxy. It became so important that it was granted autonomy, which made it a magnet for Eldar looking to hide their deeds.

Over time it absorbed other Webway ports, private estates, and sub-realms. By M31 the Fall shattered the Eldar empire, and the survivors who refused to change their ways made Commorragh their permanent home.

By M35, after an Imperial raid wiped out much of the old aristocracy, Asdrubael Vect had taken total control. He claims to have founded the city and discovered soul-draining, though no one can verify it.

Life and death in the Dark City

Commorragh is a place where violence is casual and constant. Archons fight each other for power, and Vect encourages it because it weeds out the weak.

Death comes in many forms: falling from a Hellion’s grasp, getting caught in a gang war, dying in the arenas, or being processed by a Haemonculus’ pain engine. Some victims are kept alive as living furniture, which is arguably worse.

Invasions and resilience

Commorragh has been attacked before. In 227.M38, the Ork Warboss Zoggit led hundreds of thousands of Orks through a Webway rift into the port of Blackblood.

The Kabals eventually isolated and destroyed the Ork mobs piece by piece, but several districts were wrecked. The Drukhari even turned the invasion to their advantage, as they often do.

FAQ

Where is Commorragh located?

It’s inside the Webway, the space between realspace and the Warp. That makes it very hard for enemies like the Imperium to reach.

Who rules Commorragh?

Asdrubael Vect, Supreme Lord of the Kabal of the Black Heart, has been the dominant ruler since M35. He’s the only being old enough to remember the city’s founding, or at least to claim he does.

Why is Commorragh important?

It’s the capital of the Drukhari and the centre of their power. Without it, the Dark Eldar wouldn’t have a safe base to raid from or a place to hide from Slaanesh.
