The Slugga

The slugga is the standard Ork sidearm: a huge, loud, high-calibre handgun that hits hard up close and doubles as a club. It’s the weapon that defines the most common Ork troop type, the Slugga Boy.

What a slugga actually is

A slugga is a semi-automatic handgun scaled up to Ork proportions. It fires massive, high-calibre slugs from a hopper or clip, and it’s usually crude, deafening, and built for brute force rather than finesse.

Accuracy is terrible. Stopping power is enormous, partly because of the huge shot and partly because Ork gunsmiths cram in dangerously large powder charges. Jams and misfires are just part of owning one.

Its weight matters too. A slugga is heavy enough that an Ork can swing it as a close-combat weapon when the shooting stops, which is often.

Why it matters

The slugga is one of the most widespread Ork weapons in the galaxy. If you see Orks, you’ll see sluggas.

It also shapes Ork infantry. Slugga Boyz carry a slugga and a choppa, and they’re the most typical Orks around: anarchic brawlers who’d rather charge than shoot. A mob usually runs 10 to 30 of them, sometimes led by a Nob, and can add heavier firepower like big shootas or rokkit launchas.

The Six-Shoota

The Six-Shoota is the simplest variant of the slugga. It’s a short-barrelled revolving handgun that usually carries six shots, hence the name.

Mekboyz often hand Six-Shootas to their Spanner apprentices as practice work before letting them near more complex guns. It’s so basic that any Ork boy can build one with the right bitz, so every Ork settlement has plenty lying around. It’s often a Yoof’s first weapon.

It’s weaker than a proper slugga and jams even more, so Orks tend to trade up as they get older, richer, and better armed.

Slugga Boyz in a mob

Slugga Boyz wear scraps of flak and a shoulder or back plate stamped with their clan insignia. The gear is poorly maintained and barely armour, but it does the job.

They’re the baseline Ork: brutal, fight-obsessed, and happy to leave a mess behind. Their motto, more or less, is shoot, smash, chomp, stomp.

FAQ

What’s the difference between a slugga and a shoota?

A slugga is a heavy handgun, while a shoota is a larger firearm. Sluggas are sidearms that double as clubs; shootas are proper guns for laying down more dakka.

Is a Six-Shoota better than a slugga?

No. The Six-Shoota is the basic, weaker version, more prone to jamming. It’s a starter weapon for Yoofs and apprentice Mekboyz, not an upgrade.

Why do Orks use such inaccurate guns?

Because Orks don’t care much about accuracy. They want noise, stopping power, and something heavy enough to hit with, and the slugga delivers all three.
