The Warhound Titan is the smallest war engine the Imperium fields, and the one you’re most likely to actually see coming. It’s a two-legged scout built to run ahead of the big Titans, flush out targets, and kill things far heavier than itself when nobody’s looking.
What a Warhound actually does
Warhounds are the eyes and ears of a Titan Legion. They range ahead of the main battlegroup, usually in pairs, and either scout for the Battle Titans behind them or pull enemy war machines into a trap.
In a big fight they work the flanks. Their guns are light by Titan standards, so they hunt infantry and battle tanks instead of trading shots with proper Battle Titans. Behind enemy lines they’re used for terror raids, which is exactly as unpleasant as it sounds.
They’re also ambush predators. Titan duels usually happen at five kilometres or more, but a Warhound can lie doggo with its reactor barely ticking, then sprint out and engage at point-blank range. A Reaver outclasses it tonne for tonne, but surprise evens that up fast.
Why it matters
The Warhound is the Imperium’s proof that a Titan doesn’t have to be huge to be terrifying. One of these can throw out more firepower than a dozen Imperial Guard squads, and its void shields shrug off hits that would vaporise a Leman Russ.
That said, it’s fragile for a Titan. Two void shield generators and light armour mean enemy tanks and infantry can genuinely threaten it without support, and enough artillery will eventually drop one. A Volcano Cannon hit might only knock it sideways, or it might leave nothing but a pair of legs.
- Fast enough to go from cold shutdown to a full sprint in under twenty seconds
- Can smash through stone walls three times its own height
- Operates best in pairs, using speed to outmanoeuvre bigger engines
- Enough firepower to level a city block will still pulverise one
Crew and command
Like every Titan, a Warhound is crewed by devoted tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus. The commander is a Princeps, wired into the machine through a Mind Impulse Unit and responsible for every twitch of its systems.
That link is why Warhound crews get weird about their engines. The Princeps doesn’t just drive the Titan, they feel it, and the machine’s temper bleeds back into them.
Armament and variants
Warhounds carry lighter Titan-grade weapons than their bigger cousins. The trade-off is real: their weapon selection is limited compared to a Warlord, but what they do carry is still far beyond anything a tank can mount.
The class has a few recognised sub-patterns and variants. The Wolf, Mastiff and Jackal are the well-known sub-classes, and the Dire Wolf is a distinct variant with its own reputation. Sources differ on exactly how these are classified, so treat the names as a rough map rather than a strict family tree.
| Designation | What it is |
|---|---|
| Wolf | Recognised Warhound sub-class |
| Mastiff | Recognised Warhound sub-class |
| Jackal | Recognised Warhound sub-class |
| Dire Wolf | Distinct Warhound variant |

FAQ
Is a Warhound Titan a real Titan or just a big walker?
It’s a genuine Titan, the smallest class in the Collegia Titanica. It’s built for speed and recon rather than standing and trading blows, but it still carries Titan-grade weapons and void shields.
How many crew does a Warhound need?
It’s run by Adeptus Mechanicus crew under a Princeps, who commands the engine through a Mind Impulse Unit. The exact crew count varies by pattern and source.
Can a Warhound beat a larger Titan?
Sometimes, yes. One-on-one a Reaver outclasses it, but Warhounds are ambush specialists. If they catch a bigger engine at close range with its shields down, they can absolutely kill it.
