Fyodor Karamazov

Fyodor Karamazov is a Lord Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus, the Inquisition’s witch hunters. He’s one of the Imperium’s most feared hardliners, a judge who treats any claim of innocence as an admission of guilt.

Who he is

Karamazov holds the rank of Inquisitor Lord and is known by the title Pyrophant Judge of Salem Proctor. He’s been active since roughly the 800s of M41, so he’s been climbing the Ordo Hereticus for close to two centuries.

He’s an Amalathian, a Puritan faction that believes the Emperor’s plan should unfold exactly as intended, with no meddling from people who think they know better. That belief shapes everything he does.

Why he matters

Karamazov is the poster child for the Inquisition at its most merciless. He’s built a support base among hardline Puritans by punishing heresy and witchcraft without hesitation, and his purges on worlds like Ultima Macharia, Bakka, and Cypra Mundi are infamous.

His critics inside the Inquisition say he’s sent thousands of innocents to their deaths. His answer is basically that innocence proves nothing, it just shows a foolish lack of caution.

  • Lord Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus
  • Amalathian Puritan, deeply opposed to change
  • Famous for mass purges across Segmentum Solar
  • Boasted he’d sent more witches and heretics to death than Macharius
  • Wields the Throne of Judgement, recovered from the Crypts of Abraxras

The Throne of Judgement

After the Abraxan Purges in 930.M41, Karamazov was given the Throne of Judgement, a massive relic dug out of the Crypts of Abraxras. It’s become his personal symbol of authority and prestige.

The Salem Proctor affair

By 945.M41, Karamazov’s reputation was already well known across Segmentum Solar. That year he clashed with Ecclesiarch Decius XXIII over a young preacher named Icarael from Salem Proctor.

Salem Proctor had broken from the Ecclesiarchy, with its cardinal turning the world’s wealth to his own ends. Karamazov brought a fleet and two full orders of the Adepta Sororitas to depose him, only to find the planet already in revolt. Icarael led that rebellion and seemed genuinely faithful, but Karamazov doubted him, had him tortured, declared him a heretic, and burned him, leaving the remains on display.

The Ecclesiarchy was furious, though that anger cooled somewhat when it turned out many of Icarael’s followers really were servants of Chaos. It’s the clearest example of Karamazov’s approach: faith alone doesn’t save you if he suspects you.
