Kaldor Draigo is the current Supreme Grand Master of the Grey Knights, the Imperium’s daemon-hunting Space Marines. He’s the 48th to hold the title, and he’s known for wielding the Titansword, defying the Chaos Gods, and leaving a very personal insult carved into Mortarion’s heart.
Overview
Draigo started as a Battle-Brother of the Grey Knights’ 3rd Brotherhood. He made a name for himself early by banishing the Daemon Prince M’kar the Reborn on the world of Acralem, which earned him the title Savior of Acralem.
He became Supreme Grand Master in 901.M41 after his predecessor, Geronitan, was killed by Mortarion on Kornovin. Draigo flew into a rage, assaulted the weakened Daemon Primarch, and defeated him by speaking the true name the Emperor had originally intended for Mortarion. The Primarch’s body shattered, and Draigo carved Geronitan’s name into his heart as a lasting insult.

The Pandorax campaign
In 960.M41, Draigo visited the body of the recently deceased Lexek Hasimir, who sat up and warned him that the Damnation Cache was open. Draigo had to seal it on Pythos, but he couldn’t wait for Grey Knight reinforcements.
He invoked an ancient oath sworn to the Grey Knights by the Dark Angels. Azrael initially refused, seeing it as blackmail, but Draigo revealed something he’d learned from a Heretic Astartes prisoner. Azrael committed the entire Dark Angels chapter to Pandorax, with the sole concession that the Dark Angels would have operational superiority.
Draigo led the 5th Brotherhood aboard the ship Revenge against daemons and Chaos Space Marines. Reinforced by the Dark Angels, they fought toward the portal they needed to close. During the sealing ritual, a Daemon Prince of Nurgle named J’ian-Lo interrupted and teleported Draigo into space.
Why he matters
Draigo is one of the few Imperial heroes who has personally humiliated a Daemon Primarch and lived to tell the tale. His actions during the Pandorax campaign show he’s willing to leverage ancient pacts and even blackmail to get the job done.
He’s also a living link between the Grey Knights and the wider Imperium, often stepping in when daemonic threats spill out of control. His rivalry with Mortarion is one of the more personal grudges in 40k lore.
Connections to other lore
Draigo’s story ties into the Grey Knights, the Dark Angels, and the Chaos Gods. His use of the Dark Angels’ oath shows how Space Marine chapters can be bound by ancient promises.
His defeat of Mortarion links him to the Death Guard and the Plague God Nurgle. The Daemon Prince M’kar and the Pandorax campaign also connect him to broader conflicts in the Imperium.
