Lucius the Eternal is a Chaos Space Marine of the Emperor’s Children and one of Slaanesh’s most feared champions. He’s the Soulthief: kill him, and the god of excess might just resurrect him inside your body, wearing your face.
Who is Lucius the Eternal?
Lucius began as a mortal swordsman on Chemos, the Emperor’s Children’s homeworld, where his talent for duelling was matched only by his cruelty. A Legion sergeant recruited him after watching him carve apart a champion in a contest, and he rose to captain the 13th Company during the Great Crusade.
He was proud, reckless, and sometimes childish, even to his closest brother, Saul Tarvitz. He lost only one known duel before the Heresy, to Garviel Loken of the Luna Wolves, though he won their rematch. After the Legion fell to Slaanesh, Lucius embraced the excess wholeheartedly.
- Titles: The Eternal, The Soulthief, Fulgrim’s Champion, Scion of Chemos
- Formerly captain of the Emperor’s Children 13th Company
- Born on Chemos in late M30; active from M30 to the present
- Leads warbands including the Cohors Nasicae and the Faultless
The curse of the Eternal
Slaanesh blessed Lucius with a twisted form of immortality. If someone kills him and feels even a flicker of satisfaction or pride in the act, that person’s body becomes his new vessel. Lucius’s face and armour reshape onto the killer’s frame, and the victim’s consciousness is trapped inside, aware but powerless.
This makes killing him a trap. Even the most disciplined warrior can’t always suppress the joy of victory, and Slaanesh feeds on that moment. The only known way to escape the curse is to kill him without any sense of triumph, which is easier said than done.
Appearance and wargear
Lucius wears stylised power armour covered in faces and sensory ports, a gift from his patron. His weapons are a power sword and a whip, and he often carries trophies from his victims. He’s a duelist first and foremost, favouring close combat over ranged warfare.
Lucius in the wider lore
He’s tied to Fulgrim, his gene-father and primarch, and to the Emperor’s Children’s descent into decadence. He’s fought alongside other Slaanesh champions and warbands, and his curse has made him a recurring threat across the galaxy. He’s also a foil to more honourable warriors, showing how Chaos turns skill and pride into a prison.
