Nassir Amit

Nassir Amit, known as the Flesh Tearer, was a Blood Angels captain during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy who went on to found the Flesh Tearers Chapter. He’s one of the more brutal and fascinating figures in Blood Angels lore.

Who was Nassir Amit?

Amit was one of the first recruits of the IXth Legion, the unit that eventually became the Blood Angels. He came from a toxic bloodline on Terra and was a quasi-mutant, someone other Legions would’ve executed on sight. Instead, he was reforged into a Space Marine and took his name from an ancient Himalayan play.

He served as Captain and Dominion of the Blood Angels 5th Company. After the Horus Heresy, he became the first Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers, a successor Chapter that inherited his aggressive tendencies.

From revenant to blood angel

Before Sanguinius arrived, the IXth Legion was known as the Revenant Legion. They had a reputation for barbaric practices, including eating their own dead and captured enemies. Amit fit right in, executing foes and consuming them alongside his fallen brothers.

When Sanguinius took command, he reshaped the Legion into the noble Blood Angels and pushed them to abandon those old ways. Amit, though, never fully let go. He kept much of his Legion’s former behaviour, becoming a feared champion in the World Eaters’ gladiator pits.

The Flesh Tearer’s shame

One incident stands out. When Amit’s chain-brother Kargos Bloodspitter was challenged to a fight to the death by two World Eaters, Amit stepped in and killed both challengers in front of Sanguinius and Angron. Sanguinius let the bout happen but was disappointed afterward.

He ordered Amit to eat the brains of the two World Eaters he’d slain. That act secretly shamed Amit, a rare moment of vulnerability for such a brutal warrior.

Why he matters

Amit embodies the darker side of the Blood Angels’ heritage. He shows what the Legion was before Sanguinius and what it could slide back into. His founding of the Flesh Tearers carried that legacy forward, making him a key link between the Blood Angels and one of their most notorious successor Chapters.

His final data logs capture his bleak view of himself and his kind: they aren’t men or angels, but creatures who crave only violence and bloodshed.
