Slaanesh

Slaanesh is the Chaos God of pleasure, excess, obsession, and pain, the youngest of the four great Ruinous Powers. It was born from the collapse of the Eldar empire, and its hunger for sensation makes it one of the most insidious threats in the galaxy.

What Slaanesh is

Slaanesh is a Chaos God whose domain covers lust, greed, gluttony, perfection, hedonism, and the pursuit of any sensation taken to its extreme. Its sacred number is six, and its symbol combines the traditional male and female signs.

It usually appears as a being female on one side and male on the other, with two sets of horns rising from golden hair. It can take any form it likes, though it favours male bodies. To the Aeldari it’s known as Sai’lanthresh, or She Who Thirsts, and they avoid speaking its name at all.

The name itself comes from the Dark Tongue: Slaa (ecstasy or pleasure) and Neth (lord or prince), which is why it’s often called the Prince of Pleasure.

Birth and the Fall of the Eldar

Slaanesh was the last of the major Chaos Gods to be born. Its birth happened at the moment the Eldar civilisation collapsed, an event known as the Fall. The psychic shock of that birth tore a wound in reality and created the Eye of Terror.

The Eldar had spent millions of years indulging every desire without restraint, and that concentrated excess fed the god into existence. The first followers Slaanesh claimed were the Eldar themselves, many of whom fled rather than be consumed.

Daemons and followers

Slaanesh’s daemonic legions are built around speed, precision, and overwhelming sensation. Its mortal followers range from Chaos Space Marines of the Emperor’s Children to hidden cults on countless worlds.

Worship of Slaanesh rarely looks like open war at first. It spreads through art, music, ambition, and the slow corruption of anyone who wants just a little more than they should.

  • Keeper of Secrets: greater daemons of Slaanesh
  • Daemonettes: swift, clawed lesser daemons
  • Fiends: daemonic cavalry that hunt psykers
  • Steeds of Slaanesh: mounts for Seekers and daemonic riders
  • Emperor’s Children: the most famous Traitor Legion dedicated to Slaanesh

Rivalry with Khorne

Slaanesh and Khorne are bitter enemies. Khorne is rage, bloodshed, and martial honour; Slaanesh is indulgence, subtlety, and the pleasure found in pain. Their followers clash often, and the two gods represent opposite ways of chasing the same thing: intensity.

That rivalry shows up on the tabletop too, with Slaaneshi daemons and Khorne daemons frequently fighting each other in the lore and in matched play.
