Khorne

Khorne is the Chaos God of anger, violence and hate. He’s the first of the four Chaos Gods to wake, and every act of bloodshed, whether by his followers or their enemies, feeds him power.

What Khorne is

Khorne is a Chaos God, one of the four great powers of the Warp. His domains cover hate, rage, warfare, bloodshed and indiscriminate killing. He came into being during Terra’s Middle Ages, an era of constant war, and he was the first of the four to fully awaken.

His name comes from the Dark Tongue word Kharneth, which means Lord of Rage or Lord of Blood. He’s often called the Blood God, the Lord of Battle, the Taker of Skulls and the Master of the Brazen Throne.

Khorne cares only that blood flows. He doesn’t care who spills it or why. Some followers dress up their killings as martial honour, but his most devoted worshippers know that’s just decoration.

His realm and appearance

Khorne’s domain in the Warp is the Brass Citadel, where he sits on a throne of brass atop a mountain of skulls. The pile grows as his champions fall and as they take more heads in his name.

He’s usually shown as a huge, muscular figure in red and black armour of brass and iron. His face is hound-like and snarling, and his voice is a constant growl of rage.

The sacred number eight

Eight is Khorne’s number. His armies are organised in eights, and even the names of his daemonic servants often have eight syllables. If you see the number eight repeated, you’re probably looking at something Khornate.

Daemons and followers

Khorne’s legions are made up of Bloodthirsters, Bloodletters, Flesh Hounds and Juggernauts. These daemons fight in his name across the galaxy, and his mortal followers include Chaos Space Marines, renegades, daemonic warbands and even Traitor Titan Legions and Knight Houses.

Slaanesh is the Chaos God Khorne hates most. They represent opposite ideas: Khorne is about raw violence, while Slaanesh is about indulgence and sensation. Khorne also dislikes magic, which puts him at odds with Tzeentch.

  • Bloodthirster: greater daemon of Khorne
  • Bloodletter: lesser daemon, fights in packs
  • Flesh Hound: daemonic hunter, tracks prey across worlds
  • Juggernaut: brass-bodied mount used by his champions
