Mundus Planus

Mundus Planus is the Imperium’s name for Chogoris, the feudal homeworld of the White Scars and the birthworld of their primarch, Jaghatai Khan. It’s a world of open grasslands and desert tribes, and its warriors are the reason the Chapter still recruits there.

What and where it is

Chogoris sits in the Yasan Sector of the Ultima Segmentum, inside its own system. Imperial records file it as Mundus Planus, a Feudal World and an Adeptus Astartes homeworld with a Solutio Prima tithe grade.

Population figures vary by era. One Imperial record puts it at around ten million, while Heresy-era accounts give roughly 1.8 billion. That’s a big gap, and the sources don’t explain it, so treat the numbers as rough.

From the Palatine to the Great Khan

By the end of the Age of Strife, the planet’s humans had fallen back to blackpowder technology. A powerful empire under the Palatine ruled from the city of Quan Zhou.

When Jaghatai Khan arrived, he united the western desert tribes into one horde and overthrew the Palatine. After he left with the Emperor, he put Ogedei in charge, but Ogedei couldn’t hold the tribes together. They broke apart into the old cycle of inter-tribal war, which may have been exactly what the Khan wanted, since it kept the warrior culture alive for future recruits.

Recent troubles

Chogoris hasn’t had a quiet time of it. In 890.M41 a Necron Tombship arrived and started bombarding an empty region for reasons nobody’s explained. The White Scars Battle Barge Jaghatai’s Pride broke through its shields while Quan Zhou’s defence laser destroyed it in one shot.

A later transmission dated 0435991.M41 lists the world as infested by a subterranean alien species called the Drugh. In 990999.M41, Huron Blackheart’s Red Corsair fleet besieged the system, forcing the White Scars to pull out of the Third War for Armageddon and the Second Agrellan Campaign.

In M42, after Cadia fell, the growing Maelstrom began affecting Chogoris itself. The grasslands burn with Warp energy, wildlife mutates, and the Red Corsairs have been building ziggurats out of the dead. The Chapter believes those piles are part of a Chaos ritual nearing completion. Guilliman’s Indomitus Crusade eventually arrived to help.
