The Juggernauts of Khorne

The Juggernauts of Khorne are the Blood God’s daemonic steeds: hulking, half-mechanical beasts of living metal and burning blood that only the strongest of his followers can hope to ride.

What a Juggernaut actually is

A Juggernaut isn’t flesh and bone in any normal sense. Sources describe bodies made of living metal and burning blood, armoured in brass and iron, with steel-cable sinew and limbs driven by pistons and gears. They range in colour from wrought-iron black to burnished red.

They’re dim. There’s no cunning in them, just the raw instinct of combat, which is exactly what makes them useful. In older Warhammer lore they’re also called the Kha’a’a Akh’h, the Feet of Khorne, or simply Juggers.

Riding one is a trial, not a gift

Juggernauts are penned in Khorne’s realm, where they fight each other and anything that comes near. Each has its hide cut to form a saddle, but that doesn’t mean it’s tame. The ground they walk on is littered with the remains of warriors who thought they were strong enough.

Even after you’re on its back, you still have to break the beast and make it obey. Only a direct, brutal confrontation earns you a mount that’ll actually fight for you.

  • Mortal and daemonic champions of Khorne can both ride them
  • They also pull the Chariots of Khorne
  • Once mastered, a Juggernaut moves through enemy formations like a living battering ram
  • Anti-tank weapons are the proven answer to them; regular infantry aren’t

Who rides them

The best-known riders are Bloodcrushers: Bloodletters mounted on Juggernauts and swinging hellblades. Among mortal followers, the most favoured Chaos Knights who’ve dedicated thousands of kills to Khorne earn the right to ride one.

There are variants too. World Eaters Chaos Lords on Juggernauts are called Arch-Slaughterers, and Lords Discordant sworn to Khorne can ride three-headed Juggernaut Helstalkers. One notable Juggernaut is named Khul’tyran.

Why they matter

Juggernauts are Khorne’s philosophy made physical: overwhelming force, no subtlety, and a test of worth that kills most who attempt it. That’s why they show up across both Warhammer 40,000 and the older Warhammer fantasy setting, where they’re described as half-daemon, half enchanted steel, standing taller than a man with blood of liquid fire.

FAQ

What is a Juggernaut of Khorne?

It’s the daemonic steed of Khorne, a heavily armoured beast of living metal and burning blood. It’s barely intelligent, but it hits like a battering ram and only answers to someone strong enough to break it.

What’s the difference between a Juggernaut and a Bloodcrusher?

A Bloodcrusher is a Bloodletter riding a Juggernaut. The Juggernaut is the mount; the Bloodcrusher is the daemon-plus-mount unit.

Can a Juggernaut be killed?

Yes. They shrug off ordinary infantry attacks, but anti-tank weaponry has proven effective against them.
