The Minotaurs

The Minotaurs are a loyalist Space Marine Chapter feared for their brutality and shrouded in secrecy. They answer to the High Lords of Terra, which makes them a weapon other Imperial forces would rather not see aimed their way.

Origins and the cursed founding

Records can’t agree on when the Minotaurs were created. One account places a Chapter by that name at the Solar Rebellion in M32. Others insist they were born in the 21st Founding, the so-called Cursed Founding of M36. That contradiction has led some to wonder whether the Minotaurs of different eras are even the same Chapter.

Between M36 and M38 they earned a reputation as berserkers. They showed up fast when called, then ignored orders and battle plans to grind the enemy into dust. Other Imperial forces learned to avoid fighting beside them, and the Minotaurs didn’t seem to mind.

Disappearance and return

In M38 the Chapter vanished from Imperial records. Then, at the start of M41, they reappeared during the Macharian Heresy. The Departmento Munitorum noticed the returning Minotaurs looked, fought, and organised differently from the ones they’d logged during the Cursed Founding.

Their most notable leader in this era is Chapter Master Asterion Moloc, a figure as feared as the Chapter he commands.

How they fight

The Minotaurs specialise in siege warfare, attrition, shock assault, and close combat. They don’t do subtle. They break fortified positions and then keep going until nothing is left to resist.

They’re a fleet-based Chapter, so they don’t have a homeworld to defend. Their fortress-monastery is the Daedelos Krata, a ship that carries their strength from war zone to war zone.

  • Colours: bronze armour with a red right pauldron
  • Specialities: siege, attrition, shock assault, close combat
  • Strength: roughly full-strength, around 1,000 Marines

The High Lords’ private army

What really sets the Minotaurs apart is their rumoured link to the High Lords of Terra. They seem able to bypass normal Imperial bureaucracy entirely, answering to the High Lords in a way that skips the usual chains of command. The Ordo Hereticus has taken an interest in that arrangement, and not a friendly one.

Their records are sealed so tightly that even Inquisitors struggle to open them. Combined with the conflicting founding accounts, that secrecy makes the Minotaurs one of the more unsettling loyalist Chapters in the Imperium.
