The Flawless Host

The Flawless Host is a Chaos Space Marine warband devoted to Slaanesh, and one of the more tragic falls in Imperial history. They started as the Shining Blades, a loyalist Chapter convinced of its own perfection, and ended up as drug-fuelled conquerors who remake worlds in their twisted idea of beauty.

From shining blades to flawless host

The warband began as the Shining Blades, a Chapter with a gene-seed thought to be free of Chaos taint. Rigid mental conditioning and a long run of victories gave them an unshakeable belief in their own superiority. That pride curdled in 498.M34, when a perceived insult to their honour triggered the Berillia Massacre. They killed everything in their path in a fit of wounded vanity.

Slaanesh claimed them during that spiral. They renamed themselves the Flawless Host and have been a blight on the Imperium ever since.

Older lore told a different story. Codex: Chaos Space Marines (4th Edition) said they carried the gene-seed markers of the Emperor’s Children Legion, which made them look like an offshoot of that Legion. The 6th Edition codex rewrote that, turning them into a Renegade Chapter with the Shining Blades as their former name. Both versions are still floating around, so it’s worth knowing which one you’re reading.

How they fight

Autopsies on their dead have turned up heavy concentrations of combat stimulants. The Flawless Host doesn’t just raid; it conquers, then enforces its own warped standards of beauty on the survivors.

They wear pale flesh and purple, and their leader is Eleaxus the Flawless, a Champion of Slaanesh. Known figures include the Visionary, a Chaos Lord, Jhasius the Dark, a Dreadnought, and Favian the Golden. More names have surfaced over the years: Mindarus, Salakis Garaxus (who styles himself Master of All Conflicts and Bringer of Red Truths) and the warlord Lyrius Soulslaver.

They don’t fight alone, either. The Lashdrum Monarchs, the Luscious Few and the Villsid Skinsmen are all listed as allied warbands, and the Flawless Host’s signature relic is the Flawless Cloak.

Known campaigns

They’ve conquered Laudamus twice, only to be driven off by the Blood Angels both times, and took Sendennis before the Carcharodons threw them out. At some point in M42 they allied with Fabius Bile during the Pariah Crusade.

Novaris is a more recent stain on their record. They enslaved the population there, envious of their craftsmanship, and forced them to forge weapons for the warband. That ended when the Indomitus Crusade arrived and the newly raised Silver Templars pushed them off the world. Lyrius Soulslaver died in that fight, cut down by Captain Ducas of the 1st Company.

The other Flawless Host

Here’s where it gets confusing. A separate Emperor’s Children warband also called itself the Flawless Host, and it shows up in the Perfection audio drama. Millennia of raiding and defeat had ground it down to just five marines.

Before the last Imperial bastion fell, the five turned on each other and only one survived: Le’Furion, a disfigured Apothecary. He gathered his brothers’ corpses and planned to rebuild a body for himself using Dark Eldar technology. The bastion fell soon after to a World Eaters warband called the Blood Hounds.

Whether this is the same Flawless Host as the Shining Blades is unknown. The sources never say, and it’s probably safest to treat them as two different warbands that happen to share a name.

Why they matter

The Flawless Host is a neat illustration of how Slaanesh works: the obsession with perfection doesn’t corrupt from outside, it grows from a virtue left unchecked. Their story also ties into Vigilus, the Indomitus Crusade, and Fabius Bile’s wider schemes, so they show up in a lot of modern 40k lore.
