The Scourged

The Scourged are a Chaos Space Marine warband dedicated to Tzeentch, the Changer of Ways. They were once a loyalist Chapter called the Seekers of Truth, who served the Inquisition until a prayer for lie-detection was answered by the wrong god.

Who they were before the fall

The Scourged started out as the Seekers of Truth, a Space Marine Chapter that worked closely with the Inquisition. Their Chapter Master, Gallus Herodicus, grew sick of being ordered to kill innocent people. He wanted a way to tell when someone was lying, so he’d only have to execute the guilty.

He prayed for that gift every night. Tzeentch heard him and granted it. Suddenly Herodicus and his men could hear every lie spoken by humanity, all at once. The sheer volume of falsehoods they heard inside the Imperium broke them within days.

The curse that made them traitors

Hearing every lie isn’t a clean tactical advantage. It’s a constant, maddening noise that never stops. The Scourged went rogue almost immediately, unable to serve an empire built on so much deceit.

Their battle cry sums it up: “The lies, the lies, the lies…” It’s not a war chant, it’s a symptom.

What Tzeentch gave them in return

Tzeentch didn’t just curse them. He also blessed the Scourged with a sliver of foresight. They can read enemy signals and predict where attacks will land, which makes them dangerous on the battlefield.

They can also speak one of the countless lies they’ve heard out loud. The words hit their enemies like a psychic slap, freezing them for a moment. That hesitation is all the Scourged need to strike.

Where they’ve fought

The Scourged have shown up in several major conflicts since turning traitor. They took part in the 13th Black Crusade and the War of Beasts on Vigilus, and they’ve been active in the Prosperan Rift War and the Charadon Campaign.

They’re not a huge Legion, but they’re a persistent thorn in the Imperium’s side, especially when their foresight lets them outmaneuver bigger forces.
