Kor Phaeron

Kor Phaeron is the adoptive father of Lorgar and one of the first Word Bearers to embrace Chaos. He’s a schemer who helped corrupt the Legion and still pulls strings in the 41st millennium.

Who is Kor Phaeron?

Kor Phaeron started as a priest on Colchis, got kicked out of the capital for being too aggressive, and ended up in the desert where he found a baby Lorgar among nomads. Seeing a weapon he could use, he raised the boy as his own son and later became his chief adviser.

When Lorgar took command of the Word Bearers, Kor Phaeron became First Captain. He’s also called the Black Cardinal or Dark Cardinal. He’s not a true Space Marine; he’s a quasi-Astartes, augmented but not made from a Primarch’s gene-seed. He’s still alive in the 41st millennium, serving as Keeper of the Faith on Sicarus.

Rise to power on Colchis

Kor Phaeron was born on Colchis and raised in an orphanage. As a priest of the Covenant, he pushed for more aggressive conversions and was expelled from Vharadesh. He gathered followers in the desert and preached to outcasts.

When he found Lorgar, he saw greatness and a way to overthrow the Covenant’s ruling priests. To keep the child secret, he had the nomads who’d sheltered Lorgar massacred. He raised Lorgar as his son but was often abusive and rejected Lorgar’s idea of a single god, insisting on the Covenant’s four deities.

Relationship with Lorgar

Kor Phaeron tried to manipulate Lorgar, but Lorgar stayed fiercely loyal. When Kor Phaeron ordered him beaten for a minor slight, the enforcers mutinied instead. Lorgar killed the mutineers and saved Kor Phaeron’s life, which shocked him.

After that, Kor Phaeron became less cruel and named Lorgar the new Bearer of the Word. Their bond shifted from master and servant to something closer to equals, with Kor Phaeron as Lorgar’s arch-deacon and chief adviser.

Fall to Chaos and legacy

Along with Erebus, Kor Phaeron was among the first to fall to Chaos. He helped convert Lorgar and the Word Bearers, creating the first Chaos Space Marines. He’s been a driving force behind the Legion’s devotion to Chaos Undivided ever since.

In the 41st millennium, Kor Phaeron remains a powerful figure in the Word Bearers, based on Sicarus. He’s a living link to the Legion’s origins and a reminder of how personal ambition can damn an entire Legion.
