Who is Ufthak Blackhawk?
He’s an Ork Boss of the Bad Moons clan, known by the nickname Gargantsmasha. He first showed up in the short story Where Dere’s Da Warp Dere’s A Way, then took centre stage in the novel Brutal Kunnin’ and its sequels.
What sets him apart is that he’s unusually thoughtful for an Ork. He still loves a good scrap, but he’s happy to think his way through a problem first, which makes him a lot more dangerous than your average Nob.
How he became a Warboss
Ufthak started out as a Boy in Boss Badgit Snazzhammer’s mob, and he reckoned he was second in command. Another Boy, Mogrot Redtoof, disagreed, and the two of them spent a lot of time arguing about it.
That rivalry came to a head when the mob ran into a Tinboy. Snazzhammer got his head blown off, and Ufthak grabbed the dead Boss’s hammer to lead the charge against the robot. He smashed it, but the explosion scattered his own body across the deck.
Redtoof grabbed the hammer and declared himself Boss, leaving Ufthak to die. The Mad Dok Drozfang had other plans. He stitched Ufthak’s head onto Snazzhammer’s body, and Ufthak came back bigger and meaner than before.
Wargear and miniatures
Ufthak carries the Snazzhammer, a big flashy weapon he took from his old Boss. He also has a squig called Princess who acts as a gun rest, which tells you pretty much everything about how Orks solve problems.
Games Workshop released a miniature of him in 2023. He works as a stand-in for any Bad Moons Warboss, and he got Legends rules so you can field him as himself.
