The Bequin Series

The Bequin series is Dan Abnett’s planned trilogy that wraps up the long-running Inquisitor saga, following the Eisenhorn and Ravenor books. It centres on Alizebeth ‘Beta’ Bequin, a clone of the original Bequin, and pits Gregor Eisenhorn against Gideon Ravenor.

What the bequin series is

It’s a planned trilogy by Dan Abnett that’s meant to complete the Inquisitor series, the same loose saga that includes the Eisenhorn and Ravenor trilogies. The first book, Pariah, came out in 2012. Penitent followed in 2021.

As of 2026, the third novel, Pandaemonium, still hasn’t been released. There’s also a related short story, Perihelion, that sits alongside the main books.

  • Pariah (2012)
  • Penitent (2021)
  • Pandaemonium (unreleased as of 2026)
  • Perihelion (short story)

Who Beta Bequin is

The trilogy focuses on Alizebeth ‘Beta’ Bequin, a clone of the original Alizebeth Bequin. The original Bequin was a Blank, someone whose presence cancels out psychic and daemonic effects around her. That made her invaluable to an Inquisitor, even though her aura also made her instinctively repellent to most other humans.

She met Gregor Eisenhorn on the planet Hubris while he was hunting the mass-murderer Murdin Eyclone. She’d been working in a joy house under the name ‘Lise B’, and she saved Eisenhorn’s life during a raid. He quickly worked out she was a Blank and hired her. She went on to lead the Distaff, his organisation of Blanks, and died on Durer in 386.M41.

How it connects to Eisenhorn and Ravenor

The Bequin books sit at the end of a chain that starts with Eisenhorn and continues through Ravenor. The category listings describe the series as the tale of Alizebeth Bequin and the struggle between Gregor Eisenhorn and Gideon Ravenor.

So if you’ve read the earlier trilogies, this is where those threads are meant to converge. If you haven’t, the series still works, but you’ll get more out of it with the background.

Why it matters

This is the planned conclusion to one of the most popular character arcs in Warhammer 40,000 fiction. Abnett’s Inquisitor books are a big part of why the setting’s human, street-level side has such a following.

The long gap between Penitent and Pandaemonium is a common talking point among fans, but the series remains a key piece of the wider Inquisitor saga.
