The Repulsor

The Repulsor is the Primaris Space Marines’ main grav-tank, built on Mars and packed with enough firepower to double as a frontline gunship. It carries troops, crushes ground with its anti-grav field, and hits hard enough that few enemies want to get close.

What the Repulsor actually is

It’s a battle tank and armoured transport in one, used almost exclusively by Primaris Space Marines. The design shares STC roots with older firstborn vehicles, but it’s built in the forges of Mars. Whether it came from recovered ancient tech or straight out of Belisarius Cawl’s head isn’t clear.

Unlike most grav-tanks, the Repulsor doesn’t skim politely over the ground. Its contra-gravitic field is strong enough to grind up whatever’s underneath it, and the tank moves slower than you’d expect because so much power goes into holding all that mass aloft. Think Land Raider pace, not speeder pace.

  • Role: transport and heavy fire support in one hull
  • Crew: Primaris Space Marines, usually a full squad
  • Hull: overlapping ceramite and adamantium layers
  • Mobility: anti-grav, but deliberately heavy and grinding

Guns, armour and the anti-grav field

The turret carries a las-talon and a pintle-mounted onslaught gatling cannon for cracking enemy armour. Around that you’ll find bolt weapons, auto launchers, fragstorm and krakstorm grenade launchers, and heavy stubbers, all of which turn infantry into a fine red mist.

Getting close is a bad idea. The ventral plates are powered separately, so the pilot can aim a wave of disorientating grav energy at anything nearby. Combine that with a hull that shrugs off missile hits as scorch marks, and the Repulsor is genuinely unpleasant to assault.

Variants and how it gets to the fight

The best-known variant is the Repulsor Executioner, a more heavily armed version built for pure destruction rather than ferrying troops. Both share the same basic chassis and grav-plate design.

Deployment is dramatic. A converted Overlord can drop two Repulsors from about thirty yards up, and the tanks arrest their own fall with their grav-plating. That’s not a gentle landing, but it works.

Looted by xenos

Orks have been known to loot Repulsors. One example, part of Da Blakk Skull Raiderz, shows up in hobby displays. That kind of thing sits outside established background lore, so treat it as a fun what-if rather than canon.

FAQ

Is the Repulsor a transport or a tank?

Both. It’s designed to carry Primaris Space Marines into battle, but its weapon loadout and armour make it a serious frontline tank in its own right.

Why is the Repulsor slower than other grav-tanks?

Most of its power goes into the anti-grav field that holds its heavy hull up, not into forward thrust. It moves at roughly Land Raider speed.

What’s the difference between a Repulsor and a Repulsor Executioner?

The Executioner is a variant built for heavier firepower. It trades some transport capacity for more guns.

Can Orks loot a Repulsor?

There are hobby examples of looted Repulsors, but that’s display content rather than established background lore.
