The deffgun is a huge, cobbled-together Ork heavy weapon that only a greenskin could carry. It’s a classic example of Mek engineering: brutal, loud, and devastating.
What is a deffgun?
A deffgun is a heavy weapon built by Ork Meks from scavenged parts, often bits of other races’ heavy guns. It’s so big that it needs a special firing rig strapped to the Ork’s shoulders, and the recoil would break a human’s bones.
It fires high-calibre rounds that can smash bikes and punch through transport armour. Think of it as an Ork take on an Imperial autocannon, but far less predictable.
How deffguns work
Each deffgun is unique because Meks tinker with them during construction. You’ll see viewfinders, recoil compensators, attached rokkits, and searchlights. The only constants are deafening noise and violent death for whatever’s in the crosshairs.
Deffguns are usually mounted on a rig that absorbs the massive kick. Without heavy augmetics or thick slabs of vat-grown muscle, a human couldn’t hope to fire one.
Variants and users
There are countless deffgun patterns. The Shooty Deffgun has a very high rate of fire and is used against infantry. The Beamy Deffgun is an energy weapon, often made from a scavenged lascannon, and is effective against armour. Plasma Deffguns also exist.
Lootas are the main users, since they can gather enough heavy weapons for Meks to convert. Deffguns can also be mounted on Ork Warkoptas.
- Shooty Deffgun: high rate of fire, anti-infantry.
- Beamy Deffgun: energy weapon, anti-armour.
- Plasma Deffgun: plasma-based, rare but powerful.
Deffgun in the RPG
In the Rogue Trader RPG (Into the Storm), the deffgun is a heavy solid-projectile weapon. It has a range of 90m, can fire single shots or bursts of 4 or 8, and deals 1d10+10 Impact damage with Pen 2.
It’s two-handed, Inaccurate, Unwieldy, and has the Storm quality. That means it’s hard to aim but can unleash a hail of shots.
| Class | Range | RoF | Damage | Pen | Qualities |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heavy – Solid Projectile | 90m | S/4/8 | 1d10+10 Impact | 2 | Two-handed, Inaccurate, Unwieldy, Storm |

FAQ
Can a human use a deffgun?
Not without heavy augmetics or vat-grown muscle. The recoil would break a normal human’s bones.
What’s the difference between a deffgun and a snazzgun?
Both are Ork heavy weapons, but snazzguns are typically more refined and flashy, while deffguns are cruder and more varied.
Which Ork units carry deffguns?
Lootas are the most common, but they can also be mounted on Warkoptas.
