The Lootas

Lootas are the light-fingered scavengers of Ork society. They nick anything that isn’t nailed down, then bolt it onto a Deffgun and sell the rest to the Meks. On the tabletop they’re your long-range fire support, pouring heavy shots into the enemy while the Boyz close in.

What a Loota actually is

Every Ork mob has that one git who can’t keep his hands off other people’s stuff. Lootas are that tendency turned into a battlefield role. They’re thieves by trade and proud of it, and they measure status by how much shiny gear they’ve managed to liberate.

They’re more than petty criminals, though. Lootas are the supply chain for Mekboyz, dragging back bitz, weapons, and wreckage that Meks turn into new war machines. That makes them welcome in Big Mek warbands and thick with the Death Skulls, who share their outlook on ownership.

Deffguns and the heavy support role

A Loota’s main tool is the Deffgun, a heavy shoulder-mounted weapon cobbled together from whatever the Mek could scrounge. It’s loud, it’s crude, and it puts out a lot of shots at long range.

In battle they gather in mobs and hang back, laying down fire while the rest of the Waaagh! charges. After the dust settles they strip the dead for weapons, armour, and anything else worth trading.

  • Deffgun: 48″ range, 2 shots, S8, AP-1, D2, with heavy and rapid fire 1.
  • Alternatives include big shootas, kustom mega-blastas, and rokkit launchas.
  • They’re fragile in melee (T5, 5+ save, 1 wound) so keep them at range.

Lootas in the wider Ork lore

Lootas sit at the intersection of Ork economics and warfare. They get rich by Ork standards, trading the best loot for bigger guns, and they’re often found alongside Meks who want to see their creations tested.

One legendary figure, ‘Grabber’ Gutzbag, is said to have looted an Imperial Titan. Whether that’s true or just a good story depends on who’s telling it.
