The Doomhammer

The Doomhammer is a super-heavy tank of the Astra Militarum, built to destroy Titans and heavy armour with its magma cannon. It’s a rare variant of the Baneblade chassis, born from a desperate siege and still feared on the tabletop.

What is the Doomhammer?

It’s a super-heavy tank used by the Imperial Guard, designed around a single massive weapon: the magma cannon. That gun fires super-heated projectiles that can punch through Titan armour, making the Doomhammer a dedicated Titan-killer.

Unlike the Shadowsword, which carries a volcano cannon, the Doomhammer trades a bit of range and blast area for a more compact weapon. That leaves room for a small transport bay, so it can carry troops into the fight as well.

Origins: the siege of Ordana

The Doomhammer was created during the thousand-year siege of Ordana. Imperial commanders were screaming for Shadowswords to counter Titans and tanks from a renegade forge world, but there weren’t enough to go around.

The fix was to retrofit existing Banehammers with magma cannons. It wasn’t a perfect solution, but it worked. The magma cannon could still kill a Titan, and because it didn’t need to carry massive shells, the retrofit freed up space for a small troop compartment.

Key specifications

The Doomhammer is built on the Baneblade chassis, so it’s big and slow. It’s about 13.5 metres long, 8.4 metres wide, and 6.3 metres tall. On roads it manages 25 kph, and off-road it drops to 18 kph.

It’s open-topped in the transport section, with room for 25 troops and 10 firing ports. That’s not a lot by Guard standards, but it’s enough to deliver a squad to an objective.

On the tabletop

In Warhammer 40,000 10th edition, the Doomhammer appears in the Astra Militarum army list as a super-heavy option. It’s tough, heavily armed, and can carry a small squad, making it a flexible centerpiece.

It’s not as common as a Baneblade or Shadowsword, but it fills a niche: a Titan-killer that can also ferry troops. If you’re facing down Knights or other big targets, it’s worth considering.

Related lore

The Doomhammer is part of the Baneblade family, which includes the Banehammer, Banesword, Hellhammer, Shadowsword, Stormblade, Stormlord, and Stormsword. Each variant swaps the main gun for a different battlefield role.

It’s also linked to the forge world Ordana, where it was first built. That world’s tech-priests are credited with the original retrofit that turned Banehammers into Doomhammers.
