Kiavahr

Kiavahr is a forge world in the Forsarr Sector of Segmentum Tempestus, and it’s the planet the Raven Guard call home. Its closest moon, Deliverance, holds the Chapter’s fortress monastery, so the two worlds are bound together in a way few Chapter homeworlds are.

What kiavahr actually is

Kiavahr is classed as a forge world, an Adeptus Astartes homeworld, and a hive world all at once, which is unusual. Billions of craftsmen and labourers live in its hive cities and fabrication plants, grinding out ordnance and war machines.

The planet also hosts a Titan Legion, the Legio Vindictus. Its atmosphere is toxic after millennia of industrial pollution, and mutation rates run far above normal. That pushes the patience of the Adeptus Ministorum, but the sheer output of Kiavahr and Deliverance buys it a lot of leeway.

  • Segmentum: Tempestus
  • Sector: Forsarr
  • Class: Forge World / Astartes Homeworld / Hive World
  • Titan Legion: Legio Vindictus
  • Tithe grade is unknown, but it’s presumably Adeptus Non

Moons and the Deliverance connection

Kiavahr has four moons, but only the closest one matters. That’s Deliverance, and it’s where the Raven Guard built their fortress monastery.

The other three, Psophis, Mellori, and Nyctimus, are dead worlds with nothing on them. Deliverance wasn’t always called that, though. Before the Raven Guard, it was Lycaeus, a prison moon.

From slave world to Chapter home

For centuries, Kiavahr and Lycaeus were run by powerful Tech-Priests and Forge-Guilds from their capital at Nabrik. They used the billions toiling on both worlds as slaves.

Then Corax arrived. He led a revolt on Lycaeus, and after the Guilds were broken, Kiavahr itself was hit with nuclear bombardment. The Guilds fell, the masses were freed, and parts of the planet became a radioactive wasteland. Thousands died, but millions were saved.

Later, during the Horus Heresy, the Alpha Legion stirred up a rebellion against Corax’s rule on Kiavahr. It failed, but it shows the planet never stopped being a target.

Why it matters

Kiavahr and Deliverance together produce almost as much as a full forge world, which makes them strategically valuable to the Imperium. That output, plus the Raven Guard’s presence, is why the toxic atmosphere and mutation rates get tolerated.

It’s also a rare example of a Space Marine homeworld that’s also an industrial powerhouse, rather than a feral world or a shrine. The Raven Guard didn’t just recruit from Kiavahr, they freed it.

FAQ

Is Kiavahr a forge world or a hive world?

Both, depending on the source. It’s officially listed as a forge world, an Adeptus Astartes homeworld, and a hive world, since it has forge complexes and hive cities across its surface.

What is Deliverance?

Deliverance is Kiavahr’s closest moon and the location of the Raven Guard’s fortress monastery. It used to be called Lycaeus and served as a prison moon before Corax’s revolt.

Who rules Kiavahr now?

After Corax overthrew the Forge-Guilds, the planet came under his authority and, by extension, the Raven Guard’s. The old Tech-Priests and Guilds based at Nabrik lost their grip.
