The Rock isn’t parked anywhere. It’s the Dark Angels’ fortress-monastery and it moves, a drifting remnant of their destroyed homeworld Caliban that carries the Chapter’s deepest secrets with it.
What the Rock actually is
The Rock is the home and mobile base of the Dark Angels Space Marine Chapter. It’s also called the Tower of Angels or Spire of Angels, and it’s less a building than a small world that flies.
It’s a chunk of Caliban that survived the planet’s destruction at the end of the Horus Heresy. Around the mountain Aldurukh sits the original fortress-monastery, the Angelicasta, which held together thanks to its shielding. The whole thing got built out from there.
It’s bigger than any standard Imperial warship class and carries enough firepower to wipe out entire fleets, plus its own Warp drives and force fields. A standing escort of frigates and Thunderhawk squadrons usually flies alongside it.
Where it goes
The Rock travels the galaxy rather than staying put. It visits most of the Dark Angels’ recruiting worlds, which is the closest thing it has to a regular route.
There’s no fixed coordinates to point at. If you need to find it, you follow the Chapter’s fleet movements, not a map.
What’s hidden inside
Deep vaults under the surface hold ancient weapons and relics the Dark Angels have gathered over ten thousand years. Some of it is dangerous enough that the Chapter keeps it sealed.
The cells for the Fallen sit in the Rock’s lower depths. Luther, the architect of the Dark Angels’ great betrayal, was imprisoned there for ten thousand years, kept alive and unrepentant.
The sleeping body of Primarch Lion El’Jonson rests at the Rock’s heart, watched over by the Watchers in the Dark. Nobody in the Chapter knew about that for most of its history.
The sentient device Tuchulcha was hidden in the Rock for ten millennia too. Cypher eventually told the Dark Angels it was there.
Times it came under attack
After the Great Rift opened, a daemon host led by the Fallen-turned-Daemon Prince Marbas besieged the Rock. The assault was a distraction and got beaten back fast, but Luther escaped during the chaos.
During the Arks of Omen campaign, Vashtorr boarded the Rock hunting a Key Fragment locked in one of its deepest vaults. Be’lakor’s interference let Imperial reinforcements arrive and Vashtorr withdrew, though he later got the fragment he wanted at the Battle of Idolatros.

FAQ
Is the Rock a planet or a ship?
Both, in a sense. It’s a fragment of the destroyed world Caliban that’s been turned into a mobile fortress with Warp drives and force fields, so it travels like a ship even though it’s made of planet.
Where is the Rock right now?
There’s no fixed location. It moves around the galaxy, mainly visiting the Dark Angels’ recruiting worlds, so its position depends on what the Chapter is doing at the time.
Who commands the Rock?
Overall operations are overseen by the Master of the Rock, a senior Dark Angels officer who handles the day-to-day running of the fortress.
