The Hearthkyn Warriors

The Hearthkyn Warriors are the rank-and-file soldiers of the Leagues of Votann, the cloned Kin of the galactic core. They’re a citizen militia rather than a bred warrior caste, and they’re the backbone of most Kinhost armies.

What the hearthkyn warriors are

Every Hearthkyn is a Kin, grown in a Crucible and shaped by Cloneskeins that make them tough, fast, sharp-eyed, and quick to heal. Many carry augmentic organs, comms chips, or targeting implants on top of that.

Squads mix organic Kin with robotic Ironkin, and they’re drawn from across a Hold’s population. Gender, trade, and social rank don’t matter. If you can pass the tests, you can fight.

How they fight

Hearthkyn drill like professionals and hold their ground in close combat. Their void-hardened armour and support from the Votann let them stand against far more specialised troops.

They’re led by a Theyn, and squads can number up to twenty. Standard kit includes Ion Blasters, bolt revolvers, plasma pistols and axes, and concussion grenades. Kin who show aptitude get specialist training with missile launchers, plasma beamers, or magna-rail rifles.

  • Squad leader: Theyn
  • Max squad size: 20 Kin
  • Mixed Kin and Ironkin units
  • Common weapons: Ion Blasters, Etacarn plasma guns, HYLas auto-rifles, plasma axes
  • Specialist weapons: L7 missile launchers, EtaCarn plasma beamers, magna-rail rifles

Citizen soldiers, not expendable troops

Unlike Imperial Guard conscripts, Hearthkyn aren’t treated as fodder. Field medics are common, and the bonds between squadmates are strong enough that no one gets left behind if it can be helped.

They also have lives outside the battlefield. In peacetime they run trades, pursue interests, and live as ordinary members of their Hold. That’s a big part of what separates them from Space Marines or Aspect Warriors.

Where they fit in the Leagues of Votann

Hearthkyn form the core of the Kinhosts, the Leagues’ military forces. They’re the line troops that everything else supports, whether that’s Einhyr Hearthguard elites, Brôkhyr Thunderkyn, or the command figures like the Kâhl.

A related unit, the Hearthkyn Salvager, takes the same foundation and tunes it for void operations and salvage work. Same Kin, different job.

FAQ

Are Hearthkyn Warriors the same as Space Marines?

No. Space Marines are purpose-built warriors. Hearthkyn are a citizen militia drawn from everyday Kin, even though their Cloneskeins and training make them genuinely dangerous.

What’s the difference between Hearthkyn Warriors and Hearthkyn Salvagers?

Both are Hearthkyn, but Salvagers are equipped and trained for void and salvage operations rather than standard frontline combat.

Who leads a Hearthkyn squad?

A Theyn leads the squad. Squads can be as large as twenty Kin and often mix organic Kin with Ironkin.
