Craftworld Alaitoc

Craftworld Alaitoc is one of the major Eldar craftworlds, and it’s the one you think of when someone says Rangers. Its people are strict, its warriors are snipers, and its longest running fight is against the Necrons.

What makes Alaitoc different

Alaitoc is a highly ordered craftworld. That sounds like a good thing until you realise how many of its Eldar can’t stand it, and leave to walk the Path of the Outcast. Those exiles become Rangers, and they stay loyal to Alaitoc even while roaming the galaxy alone.

No other craftworld produces or fields as many Rangers. Alaitoc is also the only one known to field Pathfinders, the elite snipers among Rangers. When the craftworld needs them, it recalls them home to fight.

  • Main colours: blue and yellow
  • Favoured units: Rangers and Pathfinders
  • Reputation: puritanical, unusually strict
  • Also produces an unusually high number of Exarchs

The Starstriders and the corsair connection

Alaitoc’s Rangers are called the Starstriders. They don’t live on the craftworld, they travel, and they come back only now and then.

Because so many Alaitoc Eldar become Outcasts, the craftworld has strong ties to Eldar Corsairs across the galaxy. That cuts both ways. The Inquisition has captured plenty of these Outcasts and tortured Eldar secrets out of them, which keeps Alaitoc and the Imperium in a near constant state of war.

The war against the Necrons

Alaitoc’s Seer Council read the rise of Imotekh the Stormlord as the fulfilment of the Prophecy of Doom Arising, from the Book of Mournful Night. That started a vicious war with the Necrons that hasn’t stopped since.

The craftworld once held a crystalline map of every Tomb World in the galaxy. Only fragments survive now, but Alaitoc still uses them alongside its network of Outcasts and Exodites to plan strikes. Even after the Great Rift opened and Chaos surged, Alaitoc kept insisting the Necrons were the real threat. Its Farseer Ylocu Shaie sang of a sea of dead stars tied to a geometric disaster, and when empyric anomalies appeared near known Tomb Worlds, the Seer Council mobilised its Rangers.

Trouble in the Pariah Nexus

The Pariah Nexus has been rough on Alaitoc. The Necron Contra-Empyric Pylons there disrupt psycho-reactive gear and even Soul Stones, leaving Eldar in a fugue-like malaise or pushing them into worse states.

Alaitoc pulled most of its forces back and switched to precision strikes instead of open battle. It’s a craftworld that wins by picking its moments, not by holding ground.
