The Titans of the Collegia Titanica

The Collegia Titanica is the Adeptus Mechanicus branch that builds and fields the Imperial Titans, the colossal god-machines that walk to war for the Imperium. If you’ve seen a city-sized war engine flatten a battlefield, that’s their work.

What the Collegia Titanica is

It’s the Titan arm of the Adeptus Mechanicus, sometimes called the Adeptus Titanicus for short. Its headquarters aren’t in one place, since each Titan Legion is based on its own Forge World, and leadership falls to various Grand Masters rather than a single figure.

The Collegia dates back to the Age of Strife, before the Imperium existed. According to Mechanicus tradition, the first Titans were built on Mars to wipe out a heretical caste called the Cy-Carnivora, and three Titan Orders were needed to finish the job.

  • Parent organisation: the Adeptus Mechanicus
  • Also known as: Adeptus Titanicus
  • Founded: during the Age of Strife
  • Forces: Titan Legions and Secutarii

Why it matters

Titans are the biggest ground weapons the Imperium has. A single engine can break a siege, and whole Legions are stationed near trouble spots like the Eye of Terror to deter exactly that kind of threat.

Their loyalty isn’t guaranteed either. During the Horus Heresy, part of the Collegia turned on the Imperium along with nearly half the Mechanicus, and Traitor Titans walked in the Siege of the Imperial Palace. After the rebellion lost, those rebel engines were driven into the Eye of Terror.

How it’s organised

The Collegia splits into four divisions. The Divisio Militaris is the important one, since it holds the Battle Titans everyone pictures. The others are the Divisio Mandati, Divisio Telepathica, and Divisio Investigatus.

Each division breaks down into Legions or Orders, like the Fire Wasps or the War Griffons. A Legion is self-contained: it has its own Princeps and Moderati crews, ground troops, support staff, and a team of Magos Autokratoris tech-priests who keep the engines running.

Titan Legions and the Secutarii

Most Forge Worlds support one Titan Legion, and some support several. Each is led by a high-ranking Princeps and answers to its own forge rather than a central command.

The Secutarii are the Collegia’s dedicated infantry, Titan-guard troops who fight alongside the engines. They’re part of the organisation but separate from the Legions’ own support staff.

FAQ

What’s the difference between the Collegia Titanica and the Adeptus Titanicus?

Nothing, really. Adeptus Titanicus is just a contraction of Adeptus Mechanicus Collegia Titanica, and both names refer to the same organisation.

When was the Collegia Titanica founded?

During the Age of Strife, before the Imperium existed. The first Titans are said to have been built on Mars to destroy the Cy-Carnivora.

Did any Titans turn to Chaos?

Yes. Part of the Collegia sided with Horus during the Horus Heresy, and Traitor Titans fought in the Siege of the Imperial Palace. The survivors were driven into the Eye of Terror.
