The Baal System is the Blood Angels’ home star system, tucked away in the Red Scar region of the Ultima Segmentum. It’s where the Chapter was forged, and it’s been the target of some of the bloodiest fighting in their history.
What and where it is
The Baal System sits in the Red Scar, a stretch of the Ultima Segmentum. Its star is called Balor, and the system is named for its most famous world, Baal.
After the Great Rift tore the galaxy open, the Baal System ended up on the wrong side of the divide, stranded in the region known as Imperium Nihilus. That cut it off from Terra and most Imperial support, which is a big deal for a Chapter that calls it home.
The worlds of the system
Baal itself is the Blood Angels’ homeworld, a radiation-scoured desert planet. Its two moons, Baal Primus and Baal Secundus, are also known as Baalind and Baalfora. Both are inhabited, and both have their own brutal environments.
Beyond the Baal trio, the system holds a mix of planets, a gas giant, and other strategic sites. Some are populated, some aren’t, and one has a year that lasts six centuries.
| World | What it is |
|---|---|
| Balor | The system’s star |
| Baal | Blood Angels homeworld |
| Baal Primus (Baalind) | Moon of Baal |
| Baal Secundus (Baalfora) | Moon of Baal |
| Set | Solitary gas giant |
| Kheru | Arid, lightly populated Sentinel World |
| Skyfall | Blood Angels fleet base |
| Amair | Cold, distant world with a 600-year orbit |
| Ammonai | Outermost planet |
The Ork invasion of 798.M41
In 798.M41, the system got hit by Waaagh! Big Skorcha. Three huge Space Hulks dropped into the system, and the Blood Angels managed to board and destroy two of them.
The third got through and reached Baal, spilling thousands of Orks onto the planet and its moons. The Blood Angels eventually won, but it was a close, costly fight that showed how exposed the system could be.
Why the Baal System matters
It’s the Blood Angels’ spiritual and military heart. Lose it, and you lose the Chapter’s home, its recruiting grounds, and its main fleet base at Skyfall.
Its position in Imperium Nihilus makes it a symbol of how isolated the Imperium’s defenders became after the Great Rift. The system’s survival is tied directly to the Blood Angels’ own survival.
