What is the Bhab Bastion?
The Bhab Bastion is a fortified area within the Imperial Palace on Terra. It existed long before the palace was built, serving as a place of counsel and refuge for warlords and tyrants since before the Age of Strife.
It’s roughly half a kilometre wide at its base, and rumours claim it resisted every attempt to demolish it, no matter how many explosives were used. After the Unification Wars, it was absorbed into the growing Imperial Palace complex.
Role during the Horus Heresy
During the Horus Heresy, the Bhab Bastion, alongside the Phalanx, became the command centre for Rogal Dorn and the Imperial Fists. From here they oversaw the defence of the entire Sol System.
In the final stages of the Siege of Terra, the Bastion itself was besieged by traitor forces. Dorn and much of the Imperial Fists were trapped inside while Sanguinius led the desperate defence of the Eternity Gate.
Just hours after Sanguinius held the gate, the Bhab Bastion fell to a Sons of Horus assault led by Catulan Reaver Captain Tarchese Malabreux. Many of Dorn’s command staff were killed at their posts, and the Primarch led a chaotic retreat into the Sanctum Imperialis. Command was then transferred to the Tower of Hegemon.
Notable areas
Two locations inside the Bastion stand out. The Grand Borealis Strategium was Dorn’s central control room during the Siege, where tacticae like Montesere worked tirelessly even as the traitors closed in.
The Sanctuary of Satya was the oldest part of the Bastion, located on an off-shoot. This open-air hall held some of the last vegetation in the Inner Palace, and the Emperor demanded it be left untouched during the fortification of Terra, along with the Hall of Victories and the Great Chamber of the Senatorum Imperialis.
After the siege
Following the loyalist victory, Rogal Dorn restored the Bhab Bastion as his personal headquarters. It remained a symbol of resilience and the Imperium’s determination to endure.
