The Crimson Fists are a Space Marine chapter created during the Second Founding from the Imperial Fists. They’re best known for surviving a catastrophic Ork invasion that nearly wiped them out, and for their stubborn, unbreakable spirit.
Origins and founding
After the Horus Heresy, Roboute Guilliman’s Codex Astartes split the Space Marine legions into smaller chapters. The Imperial Fists legion was divided into four, and the Crimson Fists were one of them. Their first Chapter Master was Alexis Polux, a hero of the Heresy.
The chapter’s name comes from an old Imperial Fists ritual. A new Chapter Master and the Primarch would cut their palms and share blood in a warrior’s handshake, symbolising their bond. That tradition gave the Crimson Fists their identity.
The fall of Rynn’s World
The Crimson Fists’ homeworld is Rynn’s World, and their fortress-monastery was Arx Tyrannus. In M41, an Ork Waaagh! led by the Arch-Arsonist Snagrod invaded. A faulty defence missile destroyed the fortress-monastery, killing most of the chapter’s leadership and leaving fewer than a hundred battle-brothers alive.
The chapter teetered on the edge of disbandment. But under Chapter Master Pedro Kantor, they fought on. The survival of the Crimson Fists became a symbol of defiance against impossible odds.
Rebuilding and recent history
Since the disaster, the Crimson Fists have slowly rebuilt. They’ve been reinforced with Primaris Space Marines, bringing them back towards full strength. They remain specialists in anti-Ork warfare, shaped by their bitter experience.
Their colours are dark blue with crimson red gauntlets, and they don’t use company colour markings. Their battle cry is a call and response: ‘There is only the Emperor.’ / ‘He is our shield and our protector.’
Key connections
The Crimson Fists are tied closely to the Imperial Fists and their other successors, like the Black Templars. They also have a descendant chapter of their own, the Rechista Fists. Their stories often explore duty, loss, and the human side of Space Marines.
