The Eleventh Black Crusade was Abaddon the Despoiler’s campaign in 301.M39, also called the Doom of Relorria. It’s less a tale of conquest and more a failed heist that turned into a brutal three-way brawl between Chaos, Orks, and the Imperium, and it left Abaddon with new research into the Ork psychic link to the Warp.
What happened
Abaddon wanted a path through the Warp storms around the Eye of Terror, so he bound a Daemon of Tzeentch inside his ship to act as a navigator. The Daemon went mad from its own riddles, tore itself apart, and bent time and space around the fleet. Abaddon’s ships were scattered across the Materium, way off course.
Undaunted, the Warmaster attacked the nearest world: Relorria, a Cardinal World. But he wasn’t alone. An Ork Waaagh! led by Murgor ‘Undred Teef was already there, and the two forces collided in a vicious three-sided war amid Relorria’s burning Reflecting Towers.
The Ork experiments
Abaddon saw opportunity in the chaos. He was fascinated by the Orks’ instinctive use of Warp energy, so he captured thousands of them and took them back to the Eye of Terror for study.
With a coven of powerful Sorcerers, he used the volatile psychic power of Weirdboyz in a daemonic hybridisation ritual. That ritual weakened the fabric of reality across the whole Relorrian System, leaving a wound in the Warp that outlasted the fighting.
The wider war
While the Black Legion fought on Relorria, the Death Guard struck the Subiaco Diablo Sector. There they clashed with the Snakebones Chapter, led by Kortharis, and unleashed Plague Zombies carrying the Destroyer Plague. The Snakebones were corrupted and became the Plaguebones.
Escalating Warp storms also threw a contingent of Imperial Fists into the Eye of Terror. The Black Legion eventually retreated from Relorria, leaving the battered human survivors to the Orks. The Orks, not Chaos, held the ground.
Why it matters
The Eleventh Black Crusade is a smaller, weirder entry in Abaddon’s long war, but it shows his methods: when brute force fails, he experiments. His research into Ork Warp links and daemonic hybrids is the kind of thing that later feeds into bigger horrors.
It’s also a reminder that not every Black Crusade ends in a clean Imperial victory or a Chaos win. This one ended with a Chaos retreat, Ork gains, a corrupted Space Marine Chapter, and a system left bleeding into the Warp.
