Champions of Fenris

The Champions of Fenris are the Space Wolves Great Company led by Logan Grimnar himself, the Great Wolf of the chapter. They’re the largest of the twelve active companies, and they’re built around his belief that a handful of heroes in the right place can decide a battle.

What the Champions of Fenris are

Each Space Wolves Great Company is a self-contained warband under its own Wolf Lord. The Champions of Fenris are the one that answers directly to the chapter’s supreme commander, which makes them less a standard company and more Grimnar’s personal hammer.

They’re also the biggest of the twelve. That size shows up in the roster: plenty of Wolf Guard veterans, a strong contingent of Venerable Dreadnoughts, and unusually deep benches of Wolf Priests, Rune Priests, and Iron Priests. Those priests often get loaned out to other Great Companies when another Wolf Lord needs them.

  • One of twelve active Great Companies, under Logan Grimnar’s direct control
  • The largest Great Company in the chapter
  • Heavily weighted toward Wolf Guard and Venerable Dreadnoughts
  • Maintains extra Wolf, Rune, and Iron Priests for loan to other companies

From Night Runners to Champions

Before Grimnar became Great Wolf, this company was called the Night Runners. The name came from how wolf packs hunt: they don’t stop until the prey is dragged down.

Most of the company now wears the Great Wolf’s sigil, but some older veterans still carry the Night Runner badge out of pride. It’s a small detail that says a lot about how the Space Wolves treat tradition.

How they fight

Grimnar’s doctrine is simple. Wars aren’t won by grinding attrition, they’re won by getting the right few warriors into the right spot at the right moment. So he leans on his heroes rather than his rank and file.

That’s why the company is stuffed with Wolf Guard and ancient Dreadnoughts. It also breeds a certain culture: every warrior in the company is fiercely proud of serving the Great Wolf, and they compete constantly for his approval.

Notable campaigns

The Champions of Fenris have been at the centre of most of the chapter’s biggest fights, from Armageddon to the defence of Fenris itself.
