Early life on Terra
Sigismund was born during the Unification Wars, in a city that was later destroyed. Orphaned by the conflict, he ended up in a refugee camp on the Ionus Plateau.
There he was part of a group of orphans looked after by a girl named Thera, who protected them from camp gangs. Sources disagree on some details of this period, but the broad outline is consistent.
The Great Crusade and the Heresy
As First Captain, Sigismund led from the front and built a reputation as one of the Legion’s deadliest warriors. He served in several expedition fleets, including the 3rd and 81st.
When Horus turned against the Emperor, Sigismund stayed loyal. Dorn gave him the title of Emperor’s Champion, and he held the line during the Siege of Terra, defeating several traitor champions in single combat.
After the Heresy and his death
In the Scouring that followed, Sigismund helped rebuild the Imperial Fists’ legacy. When the Second Founding split the Legions into Chapters, he took command of the newly formed Black Templars.
He died in 781.M31 at the start of the First Black Crusade, killed by Ezekyle Abaddon. His example shaped the Black Templars’ culture for the next ten thousand years.
