Trajann Valoris

Trajann Valoris is the current Captain-General of the Adeptus Custodes, the 17th to hold the title, and a High Lord of Terra. He’s one of the deadliest warriors in the Imperium, a veteran of two Blood Games, and the man who helped steer the Custodes into a far more active role after Guilliman’s return.

Overview

He’s the Captain-General of the Adeptus Custodes, which makes him the top-ranking Custodian and one of the High Lords of Terra. Before that he served as an Allarus Custodian, then a Companion, then a Shield-Captain. He took over after Andros Launceddre died during the Years of Madness.

People who know he exists treat him with near-religious reverence, seeing him as a direct representative of the Emperor. His face is heavily scarred, and his combat skill is said to approach that of the old Primarchs.

What makes him notable

He’s run two successful Blood Games, which is still an unbeaten record. As an Allarus Custodian he destroyed the Space Hulk Mournful Siren, crushed the Genestealer Cult of the Emperor’s Writhing Shadow, and led a preemptive strike against Waaagh! Krushfist.

As Captain-General he’s pushed the Custodes to be more proactive than they’ve been since the Age of Apostasy. Under his rule, Blood Games have increased, hidden cults in the Terran underhives have been purged, and dozens of extrasolar strikes have been launched.

Wargear and the Moment Shackle

Valoris carries the Watcher’s Axe, a massive melee weapon, and Eagle’s Scream, an assault ranged weapon. In game terms he’s a tough, hard-hitting Leader who can join Custodian Guard or Custodian Wardens.

The Moment Shackle is his signature artefact, a relic from Terra’s dark past. It’s said to have let him predict Guilliman’s return. In rules terms it’s a once-per-battle ability that either boosts his axe to 12 attacks or gives him a 2+ invulnerable save for a phase.

How he connects to the wider lore

Valoris sits at the intersection of the Custodes, the High Lords of Terra, and the post-Great Rift Imperium. He’s one of the voices pushing for the Custodes to take the fight to the enemy rather than guard the Palace from a distance.

He’s also tied to Roboute Guilliman’s return. The story goes that the Moment Shackle helped him see it coming, which let him prepare the Custodes for a Primarch-led Imperium. Whether that’s literal foresight or just very good planning is left vague.
