Culexus Assassins are the Imperium’s dedicated psyker-killers, one of the temples of the Officio Assassinorum. They’re blanks, people with no presence in the warp at all, and that makes them uniquely suited to hunting witches, rogue psykers and daemons.
What makes a culexus assassin different
Every Culexus carries the Pariah Gene, which leaves them effectively soulless in the warp. They show up as a hole rather than a signature, and that absence unsettles ordinary people too. Some cultures have built folklore around them, telling stories about assassins who can walk through walls.
For a psyker, being near one is far worse than unsettling. It’s panic, confusion and a loss of control, and a Culexus uses that moment to close in and finish the job. To purely warp-born things like daemons, they’re simply invisible.
The gene is vanishingly rare, showing up in roughly one person in a billion, and plenty of recruits die in training. That combination makes Culexus Assassins the rarest operatives the Officio Assassinorum fields.
- Blanks: no warp presence, so psykers can’t sense them
- Their null aura causes unease even in non-psykers
- Daemons can’t perceive them at all
- Recruited from rare natural Pariahs, or vat-grown
- Often struggle with social interaction and may not feel emotion, though they can mimic a persona for a mission
Gear and methods
Their signature weapon is the Animus Speculum, an ancient device that channels a lethal psychic blast. Nobody’s entirely sure how it works, but the going theory is that it collects the warp energy stripped away by the assassin’s own null aura and fires it back out. Whatever the mechanism, it gets stronger the more psykers are nearby, draining them to fuel itself.
They also carry an Etherium, which throws nearby enemies into heavy distortion and confusion. Since targets are already rattled by the Culexus being there at all, the Etherium makes them nearly impossible to aim at or fight back against.
The hidden temple
The Culexus Temple’s location is one of the Imperium’s better-kept secrets. It’s said to sit on a world that orbits no star, out past the reach of the Astronomican.
The Eldar fear them more than most. Farseer Alladrios Kulcassian of Craftworld Alaitoc spent centuries trying to find and destroy the temple, and eventually succeeded in locating it. He sent the Shadow-class cruiser Legacy of Eldanesh, then recalled it after his foresight showed him the temple’s destruction would mean Alaitoc’s annihilation. He picked the lesser evil and called the ship home.
Where they fit in the Imperium
Culexus Assassins are the Imperium’s answer to threats it can’t shoot, burn or exorcise with conventional force. When a rogue psyker, a witch-cult or a daemonic incursion needs to disappear, they’re the tool the High Lords reach for.
Their rarity means they’re deployed sparingly, and their nature means they operate alone. A Culexus isn’t a soldier. They’re a walking null field with a gun that turns psychic power against its owner.

FAQ
What is a Culexus Assassin?
A Culexus Assassin is an anti-psyker specialist of the Officio Assassinorum. They’re blanks, meaning they have no presence in the warp, which lets them hunt psykers and daemons that other assassins can’t touch.
Why are Culexus Assassins so rare?
The Pariah Gene they depend on shows up in roughly one person in a billion, and training losses are high. That makes them the rarest of the Imperial Assassin temples.
What is the Animus Speculum?
It’s the Culexus Temple’s signature weapon, an ancient device that fires a psychic blast. It seems to store warp energy stripped away by the assassin’s null aura, and it grows stronger when psykers are nearby.
Can a Culexus Assassin be detected by a psyker?
No. They have no warp presence at all, so psykers can’t sense them coming. Daemons can’t even see them.
