The Storm Wardens

The Storm Wardens are a Space Marine Chapter of unknown Founding, based on the Forbidden World of Sacris in the Calixis Sector. They’re insular, tribal, and famous for hitting hard with armoured assaults and close combat. Their history is shadowed by a tragedy that cost them their First Company and their Chapter Master.

Who the Storm Wardens are

The Storm Wardens are a Loyalist Chapter that follows the Codex Astartes. Nobody knows when they were founded or from which Legion they descend. Their homeworld, Sacris, sits in the Calixis Sector of the Segmentum Obscurus, right on the edge of the Halo Stars.

They guard the Imperium’s western frontier against xenos, Chaos Renegades, and Heretics. Most of the worlds they protect never learn their names. That’s how the Storm Wardens like it.

The Nemesis Incident

In 945.M36, Chapter Master Owin Glendwyr led his forces into the Steropes Cluster after his Chief Librarian read the Emperor’s Tarot. The region was crawling with Enslavers, and several worlds had already fallen under their control. Some accounts say the Inquisition sent them. Others say Glendwyr acted on his own.

The campaign was brutal. Enslavers twisted human populations into puppets and unleashed monstrous Behemoths. Three worlds were cleansed, but the Inquisitor Lord ordered Exterminatus on seven more before the cluster was declared purged.

Back on Sacris, the Chapter discovered that a psychic taint from the Enslavers had corrupted much of the First Company. The Apothecaries, Chaplains, and Librarians couldn’t remove it. The Inquisitor Lord wanted the infected volunteers liquidated. The senior officers refused.

  • Glendwyr proposed a compromise: he and the First Company would be sealed in stasis sarcophagi deep beneath the fortress-monastery, waiting for a cure.
  • The Inquisition demanded that Sacris be isolated and all knowledge of the incident erased from Imperial records.
  • Automated beacons spread false propaganda about a plague on the planet’s surface for years afterward.
  • The Chapter lost access to its own founding records, and the legend was born that the lost First Company and Chapter Master will return one day when the Chapter needs them most.

Organisation and combat doctrine

The Storm Wardens are Codex-compliant, but they keep their tribal structure. They’re organised around a group called the Inheritors, who preserve the Chapter’s traditions and rituals.

In battle, they favour armoured assault and close combat. They hit hard, break through enemy lines, and don’t let up. It’s a style that suits their frontier wars, where they’re often outnumbered and far from support.

Appearance and relics

Storm Wardens wear blue power armour with silver pauldrons, aquila, fists, shins, and feet. Their fortress-monastery is called Highcastle, and their current Chapter Master is Lorgath Maclir.

They have a small fleet and a collection of relics and artefacts, though details are sparse. Their most famous relic is the sealed vault beneath Highcastle, where Glendwyr and the First Company still wait in stasis.

Why they matter

The Storm Wardens are a great example of a Chapter shaped by one terrible event. The Nemesis Incident didn’t just cost them their First Company, it cut them off from their own past. They don’t know their Founding or their early history.

That loss drives their insular nature and their fierce defence of the Imperium’s edges. They’re not glory-seekers. They’re wardens, standing guard over a frontier that most of the Imperium has forgotten.
