Solemnace

Solemnace is a Necron tomb world in the Eastern Fringe, and it’s less a fortress than the galaxy’s strangest museum. Trazyn the Infinite rules it as an Overlord of the Nihilakh Dynasty, filling its galleries with relics, creatures and people he’s collected over millions of years.

What Solemnace actually is

The planet isn’t a natural world. It’s an artificial shell built from countless nano-machines, wrapped around what amounts to a planet-sized Dyson sphere. Mirrors hang above it, catching waste energy and bending it back to make an artificial sun and atmosphere.

Under that shell sit the prismatic galleries, where Trazyn’s collection waits in suspended animation. The maze runs so deep and changes so often that even Trazyn doesn’t know its full extent, since construction Scarabs have been digging and expanding for millennia. Plenty of galleries are just empty, held open for whatever he decides to display next.

  • Class: Necron tomb world, Nihilakh Dynasty
  • Location: Ultima Segmentum, Eastern Fringe
  • Population: billions held in stasis-crypts
  • Ruler: Trazyn the Infinite, Overlord and collector

The collection and its keepers

Trazyn’s galleries are famous across Necron society, and dynasties from all over visited before the Great Sleep. He also keeps one of the largest document archives in the galaxy, a library that’s said to rival the Aeldari Black Library.

For a world this important, Solemnace runs surprisingly quiet. Trazyn keeps a small staff: Architect-wraiths, Lychguards, and an Arch-Cryptek named Sannet, who serves as chief cryptek and curator of the collection.

Defences and the Sanctum

Don’t mistake dormancy for weakness. A tactical cryptek called Tekk-Nev oversees defences that include Canoptek swarms and automated batteries, and most Necrons consider an attack on Solemnace a fool’s errand.

Trazyn has also tethered the world to a hidden sub-dimensional bubble. Only he and his servants can enter it, and inside sits a stronghold called the Sanctum. Its arenas copy Imperial designs, and Trazyn throws captured champions into them for entertainment. He promises freedom to whoever wins. He has no intention of keeping that promise, and the winner usually ends up as the centrepiece of a new exhibit.

History and recent troubles

Solemnace predates human starflight by a long way. The galleries were already ancient before the Great Sleep, and Trazyn has spent the ages since adding to them through theft, bargaining, or whatever works on the day. His dealings with Fabius Bile are one example, driven by Bile’s interest in old Emperor’s Children gene-stock.

During the Era Indomitus a daemon incursion threatened the collection. Accounts say the daemon was banished and Sannet stabilised the power source, so the world survived, though the full state of what’s left in the galleries isn’t clear. Sources differ on the details, and the surviving holdings remain incompletely documented.

FAQ

Who rules Solemnace?

Trazyn the Infinite, an Overlord of the Nihilakh Dynasty. He treats the whole planet as his personal museum and collection.

Can you visit Solemnace?

Not willingly. Trazyn takes what he wants, and anything or anyone in his galleries tends to stay there in stasis. Necron dignitaries were once welcome, but that was long before the Great Sleep.

What is the Sanctum on Solemnace?

A stronghold inside a sub-dimensional bubble connected to the tomb world by Reality-Tethers. It holds arenas where Trazyn forces captured warriors to fight, healing them between bouts so the entertainment never stops.

Did Solemnace survive the Era Indomitus?

Yes, according to accounts of a daemon incursion during that period. The daemon was banished and the power source stabilised, though the collection’s surviving contents aren’t fully documented.
