The Sautekh Dynasty’s realm is the biggest and most aggressive Necron empire in the galaxy. Ruled by Imotekh the Stormlord from the crownworld of Mandragora, it’s the dynasty most humans picture when they hear the word ‘Necron’, and it’s been carving a path of conquest along the Imperium’s eastern borders for centuries.
What the realm actually is
The Sautekh Dynasty’s realm is a network of roughly eighty tomb worlds, with Mandragora as its crownworld on the Eastern Fringe. Before the biotransference that turned the Necrontyr into the Necrons, Sautekh ranked third among all dynasties. Many of its core worlds survived the Great Sleep intact, which gave it a head start on the galactic stage.
After the sleep, Mandragora fell into civil war. A pretender woke the renowned Nemesor Imotekh to fight for the throne, and Imotekh simply took the dynasty for himself. Since then he’s turned it into a conquest machine, and the Imperium now treats ‘Sautekh’ and ‘Necron’ as almost the same thing, wrongly assuming every other dynasty is just an offshoot.
Worlds of the Sautekh
Only a handful of the eighty tomb worlds are named in the lore, but they span a wide stretch of the Eastern Fringe and beyond. Mandragora is the crownworld and the seat of Imotekh’s power. Other known Sautekh worlds include Gidrim, Ghor, Jorokh, Novokor, Vanur, Hypnoth, Somonor, Davatas, Cano’var, Rithcarin, Avarris, Akynatos, Uzshemek, Schrodinger VII, and Medusa VII.
- Mandragora: crownworld and Imotekh’s throne.
- Gidrim, Ghor, Jorokh, Novokor, Vanur: core Sautekh tomb worlds.
- Hypnoth, Somonor, Davatas, Cano’var: further named holdings.
- Medusa VII and Schrodinger VII: worlds tied to notable Sautekh campaigns.
Client dynasties and rivals
Sautekh doesn’t conquer alone. It rules over client dynasties that answer to Imotekh, including the Arrynmarok Dynasty under Overlord Szaron, the Sekemtar Dynasty under Overlord Naszar, and the Horth and Malthost Dynasties. The Karnokh Dynasty used to be part of Sautekh but broke away after the Great Sleep, declaring themselves cursed revenants and now fighting to ‘free’ other Necrons by destroying them.
Sautekh frequently fights other Necron dynasties that won’t submit. To those foes it shows a measure of respect and honour, but once they’re beaten they’re absorbed without mercy. Imotekh doesn’t even acknowledge the Silent King’s authority, and has risen against him in the Pariah Nexus.
Why it matters
Sautekh is the yardstick for Necron power in Warhammer 40,000. It’s the largest and most aggressively expansionist dynasty, and the one most likely to threaten the Imperium directly. Its nobility is the most eager to expand and restore Necron glory, and they routinely enslave non-human worlds rather than wiping them out.
On the tabletop, Sautekh’s Dynastic Code rewards mid-range firepower with extended Rapid Fire range and near-immunity to Morale tests. That makes Necron Warriors and Immortals an unusually reliable metal backbone, which fits the dynasty’s patient, grinding style of war.
