Gork and Mork are the twin gods of the Orks, said to live in a warp realm called the Great Green. They’re the Ork reflection in the warp, and they embody two flavours of the same instinct: one is brutally cunning, the other cunningly brutal. Nobody, Orks included, can agree on which is which.
What are Gork and Mork?
Ork emotions leave a mark on the warp just like human or Eldar emotions do. Those traits condense into two gods: strong, belligerent and basically impossible to kill. That’s Gork and Mork.
The difference between them is famously tiny. One of them is brutally cunning, the other is cunningly brutal. Orks argue about which is which so hard that they’ve fought actual wars over it.
They’re usually described as dwelling in the Great Green, an Ork afterlife realm in the warp.
Who worships which god
In practice, it doesn’t matter much which one an Ork prays to. Both are said to help individual Orks in battle, and the average boy just wants a god who’ll back him up.
Still, there’s a rough split. Gork gets the regular boyz, since he reads as the more direct, punchy expression of brute force. Mork is the god of the Oddboyz, so Meks, Weirdboys and other cunning types lean his way.
- Gork: favoured by ordinary boyz, the straightforward brute-power side.
- Mork: favoured by Oddboyz, especially Meks and Weirdboys.
- Both: called on for help in battle, with little practical difference for most Orks.
Which came first, the gods or the Orks?
This one is genuinely disputed. Visions seen by Vulkan, Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka and Makari suggest the Orkoid species was made in the gods’ image, so Gork and Mork came first.
Then there’s Grotsnik’s claim, which flips it: Ork beliefs and Waaagh! energy generated the gods in the first place. Both versions get told, and the setting doesn’t settle it.
Gork and Mork in the wider galaxy
The titanic Ork Gargants are built in the two gods’ image, which makes them living idols as much as war machines. Mekboys work from a vision in their own heads, usually sparked during a Waaagh!.
Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka is their prophet. He’s supposedly guided by both gods in his wars of conquest against the Imperium, including the invasions of Armageddon and the Great Waaagh! that followed.
During the War of the Beast, Vulkan forced himself and the Beast into the raw Waaagh! energy powering a Cathedral Gargant. There he watched Gork and Mork fight at the beginning of time, and came away understanding what Orks really are: an emergent species that evolves by trial and error, not a Chaos creation.

FAQ
What’s the difference between Gork and Mork?
One is brutally cunning and the other is cunningly brutal. That’s the whole distinction, and Orks can’t agree on which is which.
Which Ork god is stronger?
Neither, really. They’re described as twin and evenly matched, and for most Orks it makes no difference which one they call on.
Do Gork and Mork actually exist in the warp?
They’re Ork emotions reflected in the warp, the same way human and Eldar emotions form their own warp entities. Whether they existed before the Orks is disputed in-universe.
