The Killa Kan

A Killa Kan is a small Ork walker with a Gretchin wired inside it. It’s the little cousin of the Deff Dread, and it exists because Grots will do almost anything for a shot at revenge and a bit of stomping.

What it is and who builds it

Killa Kans are crude, two-legged metal cans. Meks and Painboyz have to work together to make one, because the thing is as much biology as it is machinery.

Unlike a Deff Dread, a Kan isn’t piloted by an Ork. It’s piloted by a Gretchin, hardwired into the machine. The process is a messier, more primitive version of what goes into making a Space Marine Dreadnought.

Why Grots volunteer

You’d think being sealed inside a walking tin can would be a punishment. For Grots, it’s a prize. They line up for the chance, and the competition gets so bloody that some mobs just run a lottery to pick who goes in.

The appeal is simple: power, and payback. A new Kan pilot usually wakes up howling and goes on a spree, sawing through whoever used to push them around. Most Orks find this hilarious, as long as they aren’t standing nearby.

How they fight

Kans carry a heavy weapon welded onto one shoulder and a close combat weapon on the other. They’re usually fielded in small packs of two or three, since there’s safety in numbers.

They aren’t brave. Some bolt from the battlefield the moment things look bad, and between fights they’re kept asleep in pens so they can’t hurt the rest of the tribe. A pack firing together can still wipe out a Guard squad in one volley.

FAQ

What’s the difference between a Killa Kan and a Deff Dread?

Size and pilot. A Deff Dread is bigger and driven by an Ork. A Killa Kan is smaller and has a Gretchin wired into it.

Why do Gretchin want to become Killa Kan pilots?

Because it gives them real power over the Orks who bully them. They get a heavy weapon, a close combat arm, and a chance at revenge.

How are Killa Kans controlled between battles?

They’re kept asleep in pens. Left awake, a Kan pilot is likely to attack its own tribe.
