Corswain

Corswain, known as the Hound of Caliban, was the greatest swordsman of the Dark Angels Legion and the trusted Seneschal of Primarch Lion El’Jonson. He fought across the Horus Heresy, from the Thramas Crusade to the Siege of Terra, leaving a mark on the Legion’s history.

Who is corswain?

Corswain was a Firstborn Astartes of the Dark Angels, born on Caliban in the late 30th Millennium. He rose to become Captain-Paladin of the 9th Order and later Lord Commander, serving as the Lion’s Seneschal. His skill with a blade was unmatched within the Legion, earning him the Mantle of the Champion.

Unlike many of his brothers, Corswain wasn’t inducted into The Order on Caliban. That outsider perspective let him bridge the divides within the First Legion as it transformed into the Dark Angels under the Lion’s command.

The great crusade and thramas crusade

During the Great Crusade, Corswain served under Master Alajos in the 9th Order. He was one of only two Dark Angels ever to best Alajos in a duel, and his reputation grew to rival legends like Raldoron and Sigismund.

When the Horus Heresy erupted, Corswain fought beside the Lion against the Night Lords in the Thramas Crusade. On Tsagualsa, he and Alajos faced the Night Lords’ First Captain Sevatar and his honour guard. Alajos fell, but Corswain impaled Konrad Curze as the primarch strangled the Lion, leaving his sword lodged in Curze’s spine.

seneschal and the hunt for typhon

Two years into the Thramas Crusade, Corswain was made Seneschal. After the Battle of Perditus, he was given command of half the remaining Legion and tasked with hunting down First Captain Calas Typhon and his Death Guard splinter fleet.

The campaign cost the Dark Angels dearly. Corswain sent volunteers back to Caliban for reinforcements, but they never arrived, which left him furious. He eventually met Luther at Zaramund, unaware that Luther had already claimed the system for himself.

wargear and miniature

Corswain went to war in the Armour of the Forest and the Mantle of the Champion, forged on Caliban from Terran steel. His weapon was a Terranic Greatsword simply called The Blade.

Forge World released a resin miniature of Corswain for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. It can be built with a hooded or helmeted head, and his rules appear in Liber Astartes, Loyalist Legiones Astartes Army Book.

legacy and return to caliban

Corswain’s story continues into the Siege of Terra and beyond, though details are sparse. He’s remembered as one of the Dark Angels’ greatest heroes, a symbol of loyalty and martial prowess.

His return to Caliban and the fate of the reinforcements he requested remain a bitter chapter. What happened next ties into the larger tragedy of the Fallen and the Dark Angels’ secret shame.
