The warzone nachmund is a Warhammer 40,000 campaign and competitive mission pack from 9th edition, set around the Nachmund Gauntlet, the one stable corridor through the Great Rift into Imperium Nihilus. It matters because whoever holds the Gauntlet controls the only reliable way in or out of the half of the Imperium cut off from Terra.
What the warzone nachmund actually is
It’s two things at once: a narrative campaign and a matched play mission pack. The campaign side covers the fight for the Nachmund Gauntlet, while the Grand Tournament side gives competitive players a set of balanced missions and secondary objectives.
The campaign material came in two books, Vigilus Alone and Rift War, both released in 2022. Rift War runs 88 pages and follows directly from Vigilus Alone, with Arks of Omen: Abaddon picking up the thread afterwards.
The Grand Tournament pack is a separate product. It’s built for official events and competitive play, with missions scaled for Incursion and Strike Force games and a full set of Nachmund secondary objectives.
Why the Nachmund gauntlet matters
The Great Rift split the Imperium in two. Imperium Nihilus, the half on the far side, lost its link to the Astronomican, which means warp travel there is slow, blind and lethal. The Nachmund Gauntlet is the exception: a narrow, stable passage that still works.
That makes it a chokepoint on a galactic scale. Cut it and you cut the Imperium Nihilus off entirely, along with Vigilus and everyone else hanging on out there. It’s also the route the Indomitus Crusade depends on, so losing it would gut the Crusade’s whole effort.
The war for the Gauntlet
Abaddon the Despoiler set the whole thing off. After the events on Vigilus, he handed the job of seizing the Gauntlet to Haarken Worldclaimer rather than getting bogged down in it himself.
The Imperium’s answer was the Castellans of the Rift, a Chapter founded specifically to guard the fleets moving through the Gauntlet. They pulled in other Space Marine forces to form the Wardens of the Gauntlet, and that coalition became the first line of defence while reinforcements were on the way.
It’s not a clean two-sided fight. Drukhari raid both sides whenever it suits them, and Haarken has his own side objective: liberating a besieged Chaos Knight world inside the Rift to bulk up his forces. The violent warp storms surrounding the Gauntlet make the whole picture harder to read.
The Grand Tournament side
War Zone Nachmund: Grand Tournament is the competitive half of the release. It’s designed so neither player starts with an advantage, and it adds Nachmund secondary objectives that let you tune a list to your own strengths.
Missions come in Incursion and Strike Force sizes. Incursion games use the 11 to 33 series (Cleanse the Land, Deliverance, Desperate Raid and so on), while Strike Force games use a parallel set like Recover the Relics, Tear Down Their Icons and Data Scry-salvage.
Secondary objectives are grouped by category: Purge the Enemy, No Mercy No Respite, Warpcraft, Shadow Operations and Battlefield Supremacy.

FAQ
What is the warzone nachmund?
It’s a Warhammer 40,000 9th edition release covering the fight for the Nachmund Gauntlet. It has two halves: a narrative campaign told across Vigilus Alone and Rift War, and a separate Grand Tournament mission pack for competitive play.
What is the Nachmund Gauntlet?
It’s the only stable passage through the Great Rift into Imperium Nihilus. Because the far side of the Rift lost its link to the Astronomican, the Gauntlet is the one reliable route in and out, which makes it hugely valuable to both sides.
Who fought in the warzone nachmund?
Abaddon sent Haarken Worldclaimer to take the Gauntlet. The Imperium defended it with the Castellans of the Rift and their allies in the Wardens of the Gauntlet, while Drukhari raiders attacked both sides for their own ends.
Is War Zone Nachmund: Grand Tournament the same as Rift War?
No. Rift War is a campaign book that continues the story from Vigilus Alone. Grand Tournament is a separate matched play mission pack with balanced missions and secondary objectives for tournament games.
